Wow that's some strange looking battle zone going on there!
It is so weird that I'm not getting overlay at all. Have to see if print #2 from a different source does it.

Yeah man, very strange. Since I started doing this 15 months ago I’ve only ever had 2 tubs contam out and that was because I decided to try and pasteurise my coir in the oven at 160C rather than 160F. Don’t ask me why I was pasteurising coir in the first place
Inevitably I got 2 fat boxes of trich, lesson learned! I think it was AKA that said Nats may be super susceptible to bacteria which does make perfect sense as the jars smelt okay.
As I say, I’m just gunna leave it be and prey for a pin I can print!

Not quite that but I'm getting happier...
Tub two was the first to throw fruits, this is the remnant of the first flush:
Tub one has a quarantined trich infection apparently in the casing, but maybe deeper than that due to the lack of fruits near it. Tons of pins though and slower to flush but with great vigor. And one over-achiever which is showing subdecurrent gills.

Beautiful! I officially went back to spores. I'll be selecting a couple of sectors this time instead of just one. My 0.4g minidose experience kinda convinced me that Nats are worth the effort. Even if they are as potent as Cubes, it should be worth it with a good culture.

I was reading back to when we first started discussing the Natal cube from Ryche Hawk back in 02.
In my opinion there's still enough variation in this thread to suggest to me we're not all growing the same mushroom.

My first "proper" Natalensis fruit. Much denser stipe than any Cubes I've grown, although the fruit itself was only 5g. Trying to clone it. It came from a completely Trich-loaded container. Cubes would have no chance. This was the only fruit the mycelium managed to push out before being thrown out.

I have also made 3 transfers from the germ plate. This time, I resisted hard and only took the non-rhizo sectors! But trust me, it was HARD!

I believe to have a cube strain/ms natal cross underway, as well as some of the more interesting pure natal clone cultures (bigger fruits) incoming.
Will share results soon.
Suggest everyone get started on mixing some grain + diluting spores, there's plenty circumstancial evidence towards a cross being both probable and possible for natal/cubensis.
Now we just need the documentation.
It will probably be a new sub species too right? Cant call it neither pure cube nor pure natal

The real question is: Why would anyone want to do it? From all I read, Natal has superior effects. And most people are getting decent yields in any case.

Starting to lose faith in these Nats now, they just seem to be growing more and more overlay slowly. A have a shoebox (Right) and a mini ez dial mono (left). Spawned exactly a 4 weeks ago today ‘fruiting’ for roughly half that. Any words of encouragement?

All the colors of metabolites
I think it is partially bacterial or moldy and the mega metabolites are a response. In my limited experience with it the ones that made green metabolites were also contaminated with trich.

Fuck! Yeah it doesn’t look like it’s gunna fruit to me. They both came from the same LC so it’s possible the LC was bad. I guess I’ll go back to agar and noc some jars with some clean agar and try again.
I’ll give them another few days and then ditch them!

I’ve had some like that where I flipped the sub and it eventually pinned. Nothing great maybe like 15g dry. Crazy strong though.
Also a month or two back crack had what looked like a legit ape/natal cross tub.

I believe these could fruit still. Keep an eye for pins appearing in the overlay. I just found pins on this kind of culture/abomination this very same night. Those cheesy formations will be potent as hell dude, grab a niceeee tastyyyy biteeeeeeee-
The overlay thing might improve a cube cross, make it more prone to resist contamination. That said it goes against shroomery dogma, after my interpretation, to go for these types of tubs in themselves, as obviously very much energy goes towards vegetative growth vs fruiting

How often do you guys get super-potent Nat phenotypes? And how do you recognize them besides obvious slow growth?

I’ve really only run two cultures from spore and a handful of clones. They’ve all been potent and looked similar. The long, sometimes curly stems that split open in places while growing and the smaller caps. I get a lot of pins that have a perfect circle of white dots around the bottom too.
I still haven’t eaten any of my weird looking isolated ones from the last tub.

Ime the more potent fruits come from those gnarly ass spaghetti fruits.
Also myc hunt just let it ride. Nats seriously don’t give a fuck and will take their time. Yeah it’s gross af looking and you can try doing what aka suggested and popping the sub and then flipping it over.

Thanks guys. My first micro-Nats were not more potent than Cubes, but this spaghetti fruit I'm trying to clone looks promising. I will eat it soon.
