Harvested this today, couldn’t help myself and cloned the short fat one in the back left corner.

That overlay madness cant be what they do in their natural habitat, can it?
Has anyone figured out how to tame the natal and get better flushes with less overlay?
Whats the difference between the epic overlay that for example Melgo, Hindsight and others get and the fairly normal looking subs that milkboy and A.k.a have?
I remember people earlier in the thread mentioned less nutrients / spawn and also more FAE or is it all down to choosing good isolates or cloning?

I’m still not sure if we’ve made any ground in that over the last year or so. Aka would be the best person to ask depending on what genetics that tub is from. If he hasn’t switched from what came from his original prints then idk how he had those disgusting tubs and now barely any overlay

Yeah I went back to spore and selected for tomentose growth.
I spent a long time initially trying to clone my way out of the overlay, or find the magic variable to change.
I just went through pictures and I’ve been running my current culture about a year now. I only actually grew it a handful of times but I did quite a few transfers in that time span.

I think they need ALOT of humid fresh air, which will make them grow fatter and shorter, probably would reduce amount of overlay too. They look completely different when it's grown outdoors.

What was recommended to me here was 1:3 to 1:4 spawn ratio, 2cm casing at spawning, and lots of FAE. I did a 1:3 spawn ratio and fanned once I saw pins, misted walls and lid faithfully, and got very little overlay. My first grow, so who knows, could have been genetic luck, too.
I'd love to see these grown outside. I may bury a spent grow once summer comes around.

I believe it's genetics. I grow using the same culture since a few years and never ever got any overlay. I used exactly the same setup I used for my cubes... I passed on my culture to DERRAYLED, so I guess if he doesn't get overlay either that might confirm my suspicion. I think it's pure luck whether you get the "right" genetics.

So trip report… they weren’t very visual.. my gf and I split 6g in tea. The body buzz was great though.. super relaxed and felt amazing. I made a backup tea of 5g of mak and I’m still seeing shit from that 5 hours later lol In all, I plan on going a much higher nat dose just to see how much better we’ll feel but they sure are pretty aren’t they? You know me, This won’t be the last pic of the tub

You have a very weird culture faht.
If it weren’t for the overlay type myc there’s no way I’d think those were nats. Especially with the stretched veils like that.
I wonder if the trip is different too, those look like a hybrid where it’s natal myc and cube fruits.

Maybe everything faht touches turns to penises.
Regardless, I'm impressed with his grow here, as always.

Definetly the darkest caps ive ever seen on natalensis. What kind of light are you using? The darkest ones ive seen where on an outdoor grow, till now.

I dried the overlay and loaded it into capsules. The stuff is like ash when ground up - infinitely compressible. Took forever to load them into capsules and there was a lot of it. All in all I got about an ounce of dried overlay from my last photo.

What weight of material did you manage into what size capsule?

I always use 00 gelcaps for everything I grow. Normally I get 0.333g of fruiting body powder into them (not counting weight of gel-caps), but with the dried nat overlay I got 0.25g of powder in them.
I'll probably be too busy the next couple weeks to try them myself but I'm giving some to friends this week and will post notes from their trip when I am able to.
