I took my quart

spread it out to 7 of the deli cup containers

testing out substrates all at 1:2

- vermiculite cased grain
- 50/50 coir&sand
- 70/30 coir&sand
- 2x coir
- 70/30 coir&sawdust
- sawdust
I'm going to let them colonize to 100% and then consolidate for a week before introducing to fruiting conditions in 4 hole mini mono

Awesome I can’t wait to see the sawdust ones.
I just checked my fluffy myc shoebox for the first time in days, it’s looking pretty good. Day 10 I think.

On what day?? I wish mine would hurry up, shoeboxes look good but the sweater box is slowly filling with puffballs. Might have to trim it.
This is what’s happening all over the sub, sides and bottom.

It punches through and latches to the tub.

I have enough going on that I'm always harvesting fruits on something but my larger tubs that should've been pinning by now are all pretty whack.

Me too grim. How long ago did you flip that sub?
Hopefully my cleaned up cultures in the shoeboxes do better than my first ones from lc. I thought the last surviving sweaterbox was done puffing up but it’s picked up the pace again.
I’m super curious how the sawdust goes. That and restricted air are the two things I’m most interested in. Looking at the sides of my tub the myc gets thicker as it nears the surface. The stuff climbing the walls gets fuzzier as it nears the top too.
However my plates are pinning with no overlay at all. My next round I’m keeping some tubs in colonization mode indefinitely.
lol I poked the big one and left a dent that’s filling with water now, probably should fix that. And these pins are trying so hard to break trough the myc! The color of the water beads weirds me out too.

If they haven’t broken through tomorrow I’ll have to get the scalpel and give them a c section. See the super thick seal of myc has gotta restrict air a ton too right? And that’s where the pins all are. But I have let the surface get a little dried out too so who knows.

I flipped it three or four days ago. I should have waited till I saw side pins before flipping it. Seems like I just gave it another Avenue to devote energy into fluffing out.

Natelensis I've been working with on the left. Natalensis Clone on right. I don't know how I feel about this with the overlay issues and thin wispy vs rhizo like with pan mycelium.

My rhizo and fluffy myc wasn’t that drastically different, but on the plates the fluffy myc has started doing the overlay thing with the metabolite beads. I’ll post pics tomorrow and see if you guys think it’s the myc or if it’s reacting to contams.
Where’s your pins??

Well you’ve got knots and no overlay!
Little pic dump before the supporter account is up.
The fuzzy and rhizo cultures these shoeboxes came from. Rhizo is actually fuzzier on the surface but looks better on the plate, not sure if the fluffy plate is reacting to something or it’s just what happens when it switches to fruiting mode. It’s got the pre pin veins all over.

The rhizo shoebox also has significantly more myc getting through the liner and spreading.

The fluffy shoebox has one or two little spots where myc got through and that’s it.
So, so far it’s the opposite of what I expected. The fluffy myc looks way better surface wise, but it also took a little longer to colonize so it might start overlaying soon.

First few from my mono. I'm going back to shoeboxes with these guys. Crazy how the caps turn blue, they were before being picked. I wonder if I ran them in my martha, just less wet.

So I just pulled a handful that grew up from the sides, holy shit did these things take the sub with them. Like half a golf ball of coir hanging off a four inch mushroom.
Are they always like that? The myc is so attached to the walls I didn’t want to dump the sub out but I probably should’ve. Especially since there’s more side and bottom pins now. Looking like a job for the hc.
Also it looks like every mushrooms stem is shredded for some reason. A couple look like they exploded.

I definitely hear ya on how they grip the substrate. Really similar to king oyster that I grew. Pretty wild.
As for the stems, do you mean some look like this?
