Exciting day - my first Natalensis pins. They showed up overnight on two of my tubs:

Very excited to see how they turn out.
Also you may recall I talked about having 24 different Nat cultures I was tracking - those are from two different spore prints from very different sources, multiple MS plates and then multiple isolations from the germ plates. I have 8 of those in shoeboxes to evaluate them and take clones of what I want, a bunch more are on grain at various stages, and still some are sitting on plates long-since 100% consolidated waiting for me to get time to get them all to grain. Have to spread it out a bit over time. Anyway, two of the boxes are above, and here are the rest. So crazy just how different these all are:

I LOVE this one - never seen anything like it. Actually I've never seen anything like any of these Nat boxes but I just like the pattern on this one particularly well - I like the distinctive ropes evenly distributed with the tiny puff-balls which are also evenly distributed:

Some of them ALMOST look like contamination but I genuinely do not believe them to be.

So cool how different those all look even at this stage, can't wait to see the final results

My 2 clone testers aren't looking too impressive at this point, but we'll see how they turn out
There are mostly side pins. I set these up how I normally do shoeboxes, and I usually get very few side pins if any. I've also never fruited shoeboxes in a purple latch tub this way, so maybe that has something to do with it

Try blocking light to the bottom and sides. Can use black spray paint or duct tape. Any time I have had a culture (of cubes) that is intent on pinning on the side and bottom, that stopped it completely. A lot of people will jump on me saying it's about surface conditions and nothing to do with light but my experience has told me otherwise. Besides, it's quick and cheap and easy to try.

Nice! Looks like a faht 16qt...my MS grow seemed pretty happy in that tub setup.
It's crazy right? Every step with Nats except agar just looks contaminated to me haha

If you don't want to say, do you know what range these are possible in? I saw a woodlovers thread that said below 5 isn't good, and even 5 may require mulch covering in the winter.
But are cubes / Nats different?
Thank you
I have to admit that I had to Google my plant hardiness zone. So, thanks I learned something new today . According to the chart that I found online its 13 (15 - 21 degrees Celsius). We get minimum of 15 and a max of 25 degrees Celsius at the moment. I life very close to where these grow naturally.
I believe woodlovers are growing each year once you successfully started a patch, but I never grew woodlovers yet, so I can't say for sure. I think with these I will have to start a new patch each year.
Cubes and Nats are genetically quite similar, but apparently different species. I think Alan Rockefeller has done a gene sequencing of these. It must be a little further back in this thread.
Today I harvested the first outdoor batch. I enjoyed it even more than doing indoor harvests! I wonder if the potency will be comparable to indoor fruits. They definitely look tasty.

This will be a question about outdoor growing... But, first off- thanks everyone for the advice- I ended up attempting to grow Natalensis using both PFtek and the SFF shoebox tek by Shaperdreaming.
The SFF shoebox was VERY successful, some are into 3rd flush now, the shrooms get MUCH bigger with later flushes, the process was not as economical as it could have been, but since this is for personal use I am not concerned about profitability. The PF tek I did as a backup and it was a failure for me- (probably more due to the fact that this was my first ever attempt, you may have better luck) the cakes colonized and I put them in a wet coir humidity chamber and they inflated into white fluffy clouds of mycellium, but never fruited... the SFF shoeboxes have done several flushes in that time. NOW the PF tek cakes are getting infected with mold and possibly bacteria- Instead of destroying them I was considering planting them outside, using Moe's Outdoor tek, but its winter and below freezing (ground does not seem frozen, but it will be below 20degrees F next week).
Is attempting to start an outdoor grow in these conditions pointless? Could the mycellium hibernate through the winter and fruit in the coming year? Should I just put the poor cakes out of their misery since they are contaminated?

Couple more days on this box maybe. I have another one that's only 1-2 days behind this one. The rest of the boxes still haven't pinned.

lol camera definitely the flat culture. The other one looks like the kind I went for initially with these and got seriously acquainted with overlay.

Right on lol, I took multiple samples from the germ plate and have worked it down to these 2. I'm with you, the flat culture will be the winner to hit grain.

First Nat flush. Some of these look ready to harvest. May feed them to a friend today or may let them go a bit longer. Definitely will take some clones and prints.
