how much should I spread the spawn out?
Here are the dims on the deli cups:
Height 1 3/4 Inches Top Diameter 4 1/2 Inches Capacity 8 oz.
I'll test
- sand/coir mix sub (50/50?)
- just coir
- just coir but consolidated for 1 week after 100%
- coir with sand casing?

Those are pretty small you’d have to make like eight at least wouldn’t you? Unless you just case the grain.
I just picked up my gross fly one to move it outside and caught a look at the bottom.

Apparently it ate the liner and got out. Shit looks like woodlover myc. It also seems to have grown along the little folds in the liner really thick.

Maybe flip that one with the side pins it should leave room with the tapered shoebox.
I flipped at 12 qt yesterday that looks to pin any day but definitely not on the surface it's fucked. I figured why keep fighting the overlay just let it colonize to 100% then flip it.

Yeah the one in those pictures is gross, there’s some decent sized mushrooms on the side like 5-6 inches but I gotta dump it out in the garage and see if they’re worth keeping or if the flys are in them.
I’m running a bunch of sweater boxes for the first time but they’re all growing weird. I think it’s from running the ac though.
When you get the overlay do you get water beads that are green/blue/yellowish? My tubs got thick marshmallow puffs on it and the myc is white but the water beads on it are not. Idk if there’s trich woven in there or it’s just bruising or something.
There’s still a decent amount of space for pins on the surface and I’m assuming all the overlay is creating a nice climate, but if there’s no surface pins in a couple days I think I’ll end up taking it out of the tub and putting it in the hc.

I saw spawn and then keep it in colonization mode for like a week after it hits 100%.
The place it was found was pretty high elevation, idk how high you have to go see effects but maybe it likes restricted air. If it does it could fruit normally in conditions that would choke cubes.
I’m definitely running another sawdust tub ASAP after seeing the crazy rhizo on the bottom of my shoebox. Looks just like woodlover myc. You should try that in one of the little tubs if you have it.

AKA I do get small amount of yellow beading on the surface overlay but no green or blue. That sounds like dry bruising.

Natal SS should be here any day so I figured i'd do a search on it and I ran into this very exciting thread. Just finished reading all 19 pages.
Grimsweeper, are you still waiting to find out if this is a cube?

Must be the angles cuz the drops look blue or green in person but more yellow with the flash.
Some pins would cool anytime now

It's a race to pin before you run out of surface. I'm a little worried I flipped my 12 qt too early. Its either going to pin like a mofo or overlay is just starting on the new "top" surface.

Sweet.
So I checked the two shoeboxes I have colonizing and they’ve also popped through the liners in multiple places.
More things stacking up in the “not a cube” column for me.
The marshmallow seems to have stopped or at least slowed down, and after finding the little side pins starting I’m hoping it’ll fruit on top soon. I really didn’t want to have to trim the myc. I have a feeling it’s gonna end up out of the tub and in the hc regardless.

I got one little pin on the edge and that's it. I guess it's a start, if it's gonna fuckin start. Can't really see any knotting happening either I'm just gonna keep checking I guess. I would post a new picture but it hasn't changed, at all.

The trimming I did on my mono didn't seem to help it just filled in. I'm going to have to get my wife to help me flip that fucker once I get some side pins.
One nice thing about these is the sub gets so rubbery almost like a latex they pop right out of tubs clean. Nothing Left Behind.

lol yeah I was surprised your one sub produced so much after spending so much energy on that crazy myc.
Ok so...I officially harvested my first natalensis!
I took the gnat shoebox outside and peeled the liner off. Some pretty big ones actually.

Didn’t notice any bug activity but I’m leaving them out overnight to see if anything crawls out by morning. Then dehydrator.
