I have already set things up to cross them with some of my Golden Teacher mutants.

Maybe it will work.

Nice tub! Maybe a homogeneous mix would force crosses better?

Definitely! But i want so see if this works first. As preparation for other crosses to come. I can´t be 100% sure i will be able to identify crosses, so i want them spatially divided.
If it doesn´t work, i may have to work with clones instead of multispore and mix it all.

Doesn't mixing spores onto a plate work best for crossing?
(I really know nothing about crossing but am interested in trying some)

Works better but I remember people just mixing 2 jars of grains, colonized by different strains, in the same substrate and getting results. I have some LCs I could inoculated the same jar and see what happens. Fiji, Melmac, Yeti... Nat, all in one.

Probably not the best ideea since I may get a cube cross without Nats in it...

Better mixing makes for higher chances, i bet. But that is not what i am aiming for.
I want wo see what happens on the "barrier" between the two mycelia. Thats why there is a ~3cm gap filled with coir between the two.
Seeing them mix easily or not would tell me a lot.

Go for yeti/nat
Yeah I totally agree it will be cool to see. I like the idea. Sometimes I see tubs people put up that are all mixed together and it's hard to tell if there's a cross or not.
Why the coir gap though? I'd think it's just less of a chance you'll get crosses in the middle

Could you just inoculate one LC jar with both and attempt to cross them that way?

You may be right. My thinking was to increase the surface area of possible crosses showing up.
I have no idea what i am doing.
Just testing ideas.

That natal myc gets around, I bet in a few days it’ll totally cover the GT side anyway.
I’ve had some tubs where the myc got through the liner and a couple fat rhizo fingers went all the way across under the sub.

Or maybe the Nats will just eat the GTs.

Hi all. I put P. natalensis spores to agar the other day after reading through much of this thread and other information I could find.
I decided to compile some of the information I found about growing the species and combine it into a journal, here. It's a collection of quotes from this thread and other sources along with some text from me, organized into topics. I'm hoping these notes will help me and anyone else who wants a consolidated place for information.
Feel free to take a look and comment with anything that you'd correct or add, keeping in mind that I haven't grown this species before, the journal is by no means complete, and I don't intend it to be a tek or authoritative.
That said, I hope it can be useful to others.

Nice! I also bookmarked, thanks for sharing...
Set up this 66qt purple latch unmodified on 10/1

And this faht style 16qt on 10/7

Very different looking surface, and the 16qt showing pins already. I didn't expect the unmodified 66qt to do great because I think these like lots of fae? hoping all of those knots turn into pins

I don’t think you need to cross with melmac for girth. The Natalensis has some girth genes hiding in there somewhere and I think I’m starting to find them:

I woke up to find this little chode this morning. I am so happy, was thinking I'd never see anything from the cake.
It's not much compared to they great grows I see on here but I gotta start somewhere.
Thanks A.k.a for the advice given earlier in the thread
