Fridgedoor said: That's exciting news! I actually just put a mix of Rusty Whyte and these on a plate to see what happens. I guess I can't call them NSS anymore.

Here's where the confusion comes in....
NSS is a strain of Ps. cubensis that originated from Natal, South Africa. Psilocybe natalensis is a distinct species in the genus Psilocybe that was discovered in Natal, South Africa
It's something like 7 nucleotides different and therefore incompatible (at least though traditional breeding strategies)
That being said, if you legitimately have var. Natal Super Strength then your chances are good of having an F1 cross, but i'm not sure that the two mushrooms are unique enough to be able to confirm the cross. Best of luck to you on that, though.
There's no such thing as NSS. It's just Psilocybe Natalensis sold as a cube.
I see. It's indeed a vendor here in South Africa that sells NSS and Psilocybe Natalensis as two different species causing this misperception, I believe. They also sell psilocybe Semilanceata prints, making it appear that it's easily cultivated and the Pic that's supposed to show a psilocybe Semilanceata isn't even one. Anyways, I just look at it as a fun project and won't be too disappointed if it shouldn't work out.

Eat it. See what it happens and let us know 😉 Lots of people wonder if the myc is active.

I disagree regarding Nss and Natalensis being the same. Nss has a totally different high and is way more like a cube, the body high is one of the strongest I've experienced in a cube alongside Transkei, samples from the actual area not cultivated spores.

We're talking about the genetics that are in circulation not some random shrooms you found. What makes you think that what you eat is the same strain as the one circulating as NSS?

I personally don’t like taking xfers from the fluff because it never wants to cut for me, just gets pushed around by the scalpel and I’m left with random myc chunks barely attached to the wedge. Pretty cringe worthy. Maybe try cutting with the blade still hot
Have you tried punching out a transfer? It works pretty well if you have a nice deep plate.

The overlay! This myc is highly active.
I wonder if you can dry it
Netherlands cultivators were able to get around drug laws because sclerotia are not a mushroom.
There's potential for this to work in some jurisdictions with Nat overlay if mycelium isn't explicitly listed in the letter of the law. Or if they specify something like "underground" anywhere but not aerial.

Yeah, the U.S. laws are written in such a way that this wouldn't be a loophole here. Other places, though, it might.

Thanks guys! Loving the green cap, the bumpy stipe, and the weird way the gills are laying down like playing cards. I didn't clone but these 5 cultures were well isolated and I slanted them all when I went to grain so the genetics are already in the bank. The large size seems to be primarily a function of decreased pinset in later flushes. That last tub put out 7 similarly sized fruits and another pinning now looks to be on the same track.
Here's another from a different tub:

I'm messing around with a few Natalensis cultures at the moment, one of which is currently colonizing a grain jar. This mycelium is the most aggressive thing I've ever dealt with. It is ridiculously fast in all areas.
The plate I used to inoculate said grain ended up pinning a few days later and I manage to put a couple pins to agar to try next. Very excited to run some experiments with these.

Wow. In an outdoor situation, those really do look a LOT more like P. cubensis!
Could you give some details on that grow and culture?Quote:
