With my culture you could patch the casing until the cows come home and it will just continue to eat through it. Right now my best performer is the one I put a thin casing on at spawn, I'll have hrvest pics tonight or tomorrow. Thick casings at 100% colonization are a total mess. Massive surface overlay with not much chance of fruiting with side and bottom pins appearing. Those will definitely have to get flipped to get fruits out of it.
I'm optimistic about my tubs coming up with no top layer or casing.

Just went to make a new lc and forgot to clean the natalensis jar from two days ago.

Looks clean to me.

They don't taste horrible, had worse. They're a favorite, my wife and our friends love them more than PE.

That's not a 1st flush is it crack?
Definitely my favorite besides pans. Ease of cultivation vs shitloads of failures on pans made me focus on these.

I haven't had trich yet. Dying subs just got thrown out. Maybe thats one benefit of all my overlay contaminants just can't compete.

Got my hands one some of these guys and have been playing around with grains/cakes.
Got a syringe from vendor here in South Africa. Used some of it of grains and used about 2ml to make LC. LC was 14g Honey with 300ml normal store bought spring water (might even considering bringing the honey down 1-2g on that solution). Growth was super quick and could start using the LC after a few days.
Inoculated the following: BRF cakes. Brown rice grinded down and then 2:1:1 ratio verm:BR:Water and also added 1 heaped teaspoon spent coffee (can be more as I'll mention below). PC'ed and all that.
Popcorn. Bag of popcorn and teaspoon coffee again and teaspoon gypsum. PC'ed with water for 30 mins for quick hydration at low pressure. Dried off properly and PC'ed again.
Oats (without outer shell). In almost boiling water over the stove until no more white can be seen when breaking a one open (about 15-20mins)
Rye. Soaked overnight, dried PC'ed.
As far as I can tell and from what I've seen. Oats, Popcorn and BRF goes very well and quick from the LC. For some reason the Rye feels like it is struggling. The additional coffee definitely helps I feel. Early on I can see the mycelium starting and growing on the coffee rounds in a lot of spots. The large gaps in popcorn are also no problem for this mycelium as it reaches out quite aggresively.
Will add some pics a bit later

Under normal circumstances I'd say you have some fucked up Technics going on there but different parts of the world I've seen some fantastic grows happening that I'm not familiar with. Good luck dude.
Whatever it takes I'm going to make natalensis my bitch. Its my focus and I love this species.

This could definitely have something to do with the overlay.
It’s hard to see but the top colony on the right side is super fuzzy and raised way higher than anything else.

I’m gonna grab some of it and run it against the normal stuff.

My transfers are starting to look like the top right section. It's clean and pretty, just a white blanket that expands, so far. I'm hoping it'll turn a little rhizo in the next few mm.

Take a sample from both and run them side by side. I’ve always used the type of myc at 7oclock (the rhizo-est) and have never gotten the type of overlay I’ve seen in this thread.
If I were you I’d take one tomentose and one rhizo sample (or a few ) and run some shoeboxes in similar conditions and report back how each culture does

Yeah I agree. I think with mine im gonna cook some jars and transfer a tiny bit of the fluffy stuff then drop the rest of that section to grain, then do the same with the rhizo.
Crack does it look like this?

Could’ve been coincidence but that’s the only plate I’ve ever had like that and it did not go well. I was all into it at first cuz it looked cool and I’d never seen it before. It was super slow and possibly bacterial on grain but that could’ve been me messing up inoculation.
