Thanks man. And I’m glad your expanding that culture! I really wish I could tell my wife why these mushrooms are so beneficial to my mental health and overall well-being. Like, she notices how much of a difference it makes, but doesn’t understand why. I hate keeping this secret from her.

Eh not gonna clone it. It’s already a clone culture though so I’m gonna run it again only actually pay attention to it and see what I get.
These always look so odd when I rip them open. It’s like light green styrofoam or sponge or something. The flesh is way different from cubes.

I love that. So bizarre They have so much more flavor than cubes too. I haven’t tried freshies yet, but dry they almost get juicy and swell up in your mouth. Mmmm, makes me salivate

Dumb jokes aside I am very close to joining the Natal gang. I had an idea for going spores to LC that I could use some feedback on. I have an oat puck in a quart jar inoculated from clean agar wedge. The plan is to in vitro fruit and only open inside the SAB take take a print from leaving me with what I would assume is a damn near perfectly clean print I can take to LC.
My reasoning behind that experiment is to allow nature to figure out which are best suitable for the grains and climate without me cutting a massive amount of genetics out first. Clean spores to grain water lc to same grains. Thoughts?

You're over thinking it and complicating the process for no reason. Natalensis will devour everything... It doesn't need special treatment.

That’s a pretty solid plan if you want to make spore lc.

Sup guys! I just came home from a trip to a surprise, looks like I got lucky with my natalensis culture! No overlay so to speak, just a bunch of wiley looking pins.

I want to check in with you guys to see what you think of my plan: I'm going to take the two shoeboxes with the larger fruits and fruit them uncased in a mono. For the one with the pins that aren't really showing yet I was thinking of casing it with some untreated potting soil.

I recently started fruiting most of my shoeboxes in monos, it works great.
Were those in an unmodded tub or something? They look like they’re starved for air but that’s unusual with shoeboxes so it could just be weird genetics. I’m curious how they turn out, based on some I’ve had I wouldn’t be surprised if they end up foot long curly cues.

I more than likely am haha. Compared to the folks that are growing them in South Africa, the fruits we are getting here are very inconsistent. My thinking is that going MS (using LC to speed up the process) would allow me to see a greater variety of genetic combinations that might produce a more consistent fruiting culture in these environmental conditions.
Seeing as y’all are some very experienced growers working on this species and continually getting mixed results I’m just messing around with things and hoping to add a little something to the pot. I still have a ton to learn though and always open to constructive criticism.

I’ve been wondering how they’d do without a top layer as well. Very interested to see what happens with that.

No, not in unmodded tubs just in their shoeboxes with the lids on while they colonized. I went out of town for 5 days and when I came back this is what they looked like. I put two of them into a Pasty EZ Dialed Mono and the third one I dub-tubbed. I don't think I'm going to case this time since they seem to have a pretty okay pinset as is. I'll be taking a clone from this, maybe I'll try the casing on the next run.
I'll keep you all posted with how it goes!
