My first run with these I got some lanky fruits, did a really small shoe box. Cloned some decent sized fruits and moved into these bigger ice cream tubs, surprised how much thiccer these fruits are than my last!

That’s a nice tub.

I’ve had so many phenos with these.

Some looked a lot like cubes, some were tiny like walle’s Clone he just posted, some were ten inches long and all curly and split open, some were super tall with fat bases and tiny caps. A whole bunch looked kinda like PE or ksss.

I think that adds a lot of confusion to these too.

I wonder if cubes were like this before the became so heavily domesticated

Split a quart of spawn between two shoeboxes (.5:3 ratio). First ones for me with no side pins. I fanned and misted these two tubs pretty aggressively when they started to overlay, at least two or three times a day(I don't mist or fan cubes). I live in a very dry climate, so I was afraid of drying them out while upping the FAE. The ones that I left alone threw a ton of side pins in addition to the thick on the surface. Once I have a good clone going I’ll have to do a side by side comparison.

Seems like it'll just grow through the overlay then?

I need to prep some masters, but these first two jars I have each have reached 100% but they look different from wach other and one has a strong rizo section within it. I think the faint looking jar might be dry grain.

I'm thinking shoeboxes in a tub with lids on during colonization, then just remove the shoebox lids for fruiting.

Im curious how the one on the right does. It’s thick and aggressive but not rhizo which could be the perfect combo.

Nat progress.

This is F5 off of an original print from Celest last year.

I’ve been working on these for a while.

Finally stopped the overlay, the wild rhizo growth, the puffball mess.

These are short, no veil, stipe attachment on par with nats. Just diff pheno that I’ve worked on

The last pictures in there are form the original run I did in November or so. Beat up sub, and got thrown into the Gourmet tent.

That would be awesome. Any tips on getting them to pin? I was just going to leave it in the shoebox with the lid on for a while until it looks more or less fully colonized, then throw them in monos to fruit.

Always use double liners.
After it's fully colonized and the myc starts to fan out add a top layer/casing. I use poting soil strait from the bag.
Here are, some pics from my last grow.

I don't mist or fan, or anything. It's mostly set and forget. In a pasty's ez dialed mono tub.
The second flush looked pretty much the same but with shorter fruits. I guess that's becouse of the lover temperature they sat in and not as much water available.

Beautiful flush! At what point do you apply the potting soil casing layer? My coir is looking quite spikey with mycelium coming up through it and is starting to look like its overlaying a bit. It's been 7 days since spawning.

Le durp. I see you already addressed my question! I’ll be casing with potting soil as soon as its fully colonized and will post updates here. Thanks nosf3r4tu!

I’m starting to think maybe these have some kind of symbiotic relationship with bugs

The super bad one has larva living in the overlay now. I’ve only had this happen once, last summer, and it was also in natal overlay.

Hahaha, all my P. allenii seem to have something similar going on. Both my boxes were full of fungus gnats, molds, slime molds and the allenii absolutely devour all of it no questions asked. And I’ve found untreated potting soil make for a perfect casing layer for them too. I’m wondering if some of the more aggressive species do better with the microbes in the soil so when it isn’t present they freak out and either overlay or just don’t fruit.

Could be, I forget what species it was but this guy had collected a wild specimen and tried to grow it and ended up having to go back where he found it and get some soil to case it with and then it worked.

At least that’s what he said in the thread.

I believe Inski did this to successfully fruit P.auckalandiae. Here's an interesting read regarding the relationship between fungi and bacteria https://sfamjournals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1111/1462-2920.14765

1/3 spawn/sub. Sub was 3 parts manure, 2 parts verm and 1 part perlite.pasteurized. Previously I've done straw/manure 50/50 and liked that one better. I think straw/manure/verm/gipsum would be best. But I'm not running them any time soon...
