What is this orange stuff.
    #26413770 - 01/03/20 07:27 AM (4 years, 26 days ago)

I’m such a newb, I’ve had some success, got quite a few spore prints too.
However, (ignore the tub, I’m experimenting) I’ve turn these cakes on their head to show, what’s the Orange stuff, contam? Can I save them?

Looks like bacteria (and cakes from multi-spore are always bacterial to some degree).

I've had that issue when I left cakes with water pooling under them (do not let water pool) but I've never had as much yellow/orange as on your cakes.

I've always continued to fruit them with no issue but 1) do they smell weird? 2) Is it spreading?

And, as always, I urge you to wait for someone with loads more experience than me.

1) not really, they still like mushrooms but only slightly off.
2) not really.

I’ll remove to pools, cheers for the tip

No problem, bacteria love moisture so it's always advised to not let water pool.

Can you describe the smell?

Weirdly they smell a bit like tobacco?

Ive mainly gotten this issue from over colonizing my jars. As the mycelium sweats it causes water to pool in the bottom of the jars.

They are fruit though, even with the weird Marlboro smell.

Haha. Honestly though if you suspect contamination i suggest you dispose of them. Keeping contaminated grows is not good for your health and increases spore loads in your grow area

Kinda hard to tell but my first thought is it looks like it might’ve dried out a little bit.

I’d keep them going unless mold shows up.

I took a calculated risk a few minute ago... I crumbled the cakes and put them in tubs with a verm layer. I also have some jars almost fully inoculated that I can wait for, as in pic. 🤞🏼
