What is your immediate situation like?
I'm okay, literally in the wettest region of the country so the fires here have been controllable. My friends and family are scattered all over, some are in the hell zones.
Thanks for asking though.

The smoke had reached almost all Major cities along the eastern coast. Canberra and Sydney are still routinely choked in thick smog. Yesterday Melbourne had some thick smoke blanketing the entire city. Its even crossed the Tasman sea & started to coat New Zealand's glaciers in ash;
https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2020/01/02/smoke-australias-bushfires-shrowds-new-zealand-glaciers-turn/
Even though the destruction & death toll are still escalating. the government are adamant that climate change isn't a serious issue or only plays a minor role in all this. They have their heads so far up their own asses that some members of the current leading party will even go out of their way to blame the environmentalist party the "Greens" for the reason behind these fires. The problem is that isolated populations of passive thinking people eat that shit up. Like this guy;
https://www.liveleak.com/view?t=9fcj2_1577900911
-The Greens aren't in government at a Federal or State level & its not even their policy. They actually support hazard reduction burning -Burn offs are allowed on private property in the right conditions/time of year. Though because of climate change those Ideal times are become much less frequent. -Warmer, drier, windy or wet conditions are preventing burn offs from being done.
Its sad to think that he's serious. Like the yearly record breaking temperatures & heatwaves have nothing to do with the fires? Even The Coal power stations near my area are still billowing smoke from their chimneys even when there's plenty of bush fire smog already chocking the atmosphere. I hope positive environmental changes are eventually implemented as a result of these disasters. Or things will only get worse.

For reference, an area the size of the state of Indiana is burnt, we're 6 days into our regular fire season and the fires are expected to burn for another 8 weeks.

Its sunspots and the greens that I hold accountable. We should speed up burning fossil fuels increase emissions because more Co2 would deprive the fires of oxygen.

People for the most part will be safe. Their homes will burn, but it's all the wildlife that has it the worst. Their homes and lives. Don't get me wrong, I'm not putting an animals life over a person's, but I am saying that humans have more resources and other means to stay alive.

Alot of species are fucked, especially in NSW. Ironically the species that created this set of circumstances will be fine.

Yeah. Even if they escape the fire, much of their habitat is gone.

My kids are on school holidays now and are spending a lot of time sewing up pouches to give to wildlife centers for recovering animals. Darn fine little people they are.

One thing I do not understand is the steps they are taking to put out the flames.
A few years ago I saw a huge plan drop down into a lake, scoop up a bunch of water, and fly to the fire and dump water. I mean, Australia is a damn island...
