What is tomentose mycelium?
    #26413341 - 01/02/20 09:38 PM (4 years, 1 month ago)

I was curious what tomentose really was
Is it foreign mold or bad in any way?
A compilation of various genetics all sprawling upwards n outwards?

Would this be a good example? It's hard to tell but it's very thick. Skinny in the middle, like a donut. I plan on isolating it regardless just wanted some education on the topic

Mycelium can grow in two forms, tomentose and rhizomorphic.

Tomentose growth is characterized by unorganized and dense growth.
Rhizomorphic growth is characterized by organized and optimal growth, can cover surfaces faster. It's name comes from the greek rhizo ("root"), it means root-like mycelium, where you can discern white (mycelium) spots with root form growth.

Usually, growth starts tomentose and then turn rhizomorphic. The photos you attached are a good example of tomentose mycelium.
