PNW Cyanescens? 1

Habitat: PNW, Light colored woodchip beds
Gills: Brown. Spore pending
Stem: White/grey. Tough. Non-hollow
Cap: Caramel color to light tan on older specimens.
Spore print color: Pending
Bruising: Blue bruising was present on most mushrooms as they are older.
Appear to be Cyanescens but it has been over 10 years since I last ID'd them. That, and the age of many of these makes it more difficult. Which brings up another question - How old is too old?
Note: This was a very exposed and public spot which required quick removal.
There were many much older specimens and many fresh pins from the recent rain which I left. Oh! that's another question - If you came across some big groups like this, would you get rid of all the really old stuff so that it doesn't contaminate the pins?

Thanks!
Any advice for what classifies them as "too old". I never really had anything but fresh in the past. And there are many more that are similar age to these. Along with a new batch coming in.
I know, probably a search function type of question

If they smell funky and are disintegrating, that’s too old. Treat them like you would any piece of fruit, if they’ve turned it’s usually pretty evident

They all look fine to me. I've always made tea out of the blackish, older, dried up ones and haven't had any adverse effects. I think that unless they're goopy and fall apart when picked they should be fine after being dried

Very nice.
--------------------
The mushrooms are great. The mushrooms are fine. Give me them with lashings of wine.

Day 2 update 670 wet grams. Found several more patches. What I picked didn't put a dent in what is there. The hardest part was picking without crushing others. Any pins or recently opened fruits were left.

Those are all fine. When they are no good they turn to black mush. 30+ years of picking cyans, I have never had ill effects from "old" mushrooms. Older specimens might be slightly degraded in potency, but not gonna hurt you. Dry them thoroughly or make tea with fresh specimens by steeping on the stove on low for 30 minutes or so in a few cups of water. About 4 adult mushrooms fresh is a good dose as tea. I add honey cinnamon and lemon for taste. Happy new year. Where in the PNW are you? Seattle season seemed to be tapering off after thanksgiving when I was up for a hunting visit, due to the early freeze. I was wondering if it would perk back up. I did see some fresh pins...

Dude really seattle. The mega patch i visited this year and got a toysl of 7 ounces of cyans has produced about 20 mushrooms in the last month and most are seeming to rot early. Glad to see seattle is still killin it, nice haul!

That's great. I've often seen things continue long after most people give up on the season. Latest I've found cyans in Seattle was late February.

Has anyone tried to add water to their cyan spots to encourage growth? Or is it more complicated than that? Amongst the hundreds of rotting cyans there are some pins coming in. Most seem to failing before opening. A few are opening a bit then nothing.

I tried this early on in the season, just emptying my water bottle on a patch of pins during a dry streak. The patch ended up producing medium sized fruits, but its hard to say if my watering had any significant effect.
