What variety did I actually end up with you think!?
    #26410817 - 01/01/20 11:54 AM (4 years, 1 month ago)

I originally started my mycology venture with 3 syringes purchased online from a private party. I supposedly received GT, B+ & Martinique varieties. The first one I started working with that I was able to take from start to fruit was the GTs. When they started pinning there were no typical brown caps and as they matured they remained albino/leucistic looking. When the 1st flush was ready to harvest I plucked them and took a few prints to run through them again and to get an idea of what I was actually working with. The prints turned out looking reddish and rust colored which leads me to believe I got some RWs instead of GTs. Here are some pictures of the shoebox, individual fruits and some prints that I took so you can get an idea of what I was working with and hopefully chime in as to what you think I have on my hands.

Those are almost certainly rusty whites!  Nice fruits

Thanks, pinset was a little lackluster, but I think that was due to no casing layer and using random MSS. I had another come in since and that one had a thin casing and had a much nicer/fuller pinset. Most the larger fruits were topping out around 10-12g wet so I'm attempting to clone one of those and hopefully get a more consistent tub on my next attempt with these.

All of that sounds solid.  Nice work dude.  Yeah, I always do a top layer for my tubs for similar reasoning, I find that if I dont the results are slightly more unpredictable.  RW has been good to me when grown multispore, I wouldn't put all your eggs in one basket in terms of running the clone only, I would personally run a couple clones and some ms to see what works best.  Nicely done!!! Hope they're potent, every time I tried RW it had a lil extra oomph.

Good point, thanks for the advice, I'll keep casting a few different lines for the time being. From my experimenting I can say I've found these to be carrying some extra oomph, but that may also be attributed to having fresh wet fruit.

I was impatient at first and thought the casing would just put more time between me and the finish line, glad I tried with a casing and have seen the difference firsthand. Thanks again

For sure!  Top layers help a lot.

Btw, a true "casing" actually refers to a non-nutritious layer put on top rather than putting more of the coir/verm substrate on top, which is referred to as a "top layer".  Casings usually are coir/peat/lime/gypsum or sometimes just vermiculite and are rarely used for cubensis nowadays besides penis envy varieties

Thanks for the correction, I don't want to be that guy regurgitating bad information. On that note, I'm seeing greater success on my end with a  thin top layer, I'm guessing it helps retain moisture a bit better and creates ideal surface conditions with little to no effort or attention. It seemed my shoeboxes with no top layer were drying way quicker than those with and I was constantly having to keep an eye on them and mist and fan.

Only downfall to all of this is that after getting going with these RWs that were supposed to be GTs is that I bought myself a RW print and have that coming up a few weeks behind this grow...oh well. Guess I'll have to come by some GTs another time.
:disappoint:

I'm running another grow with these to see what happens, these were some pretty quick prints. I had a few others with this variety that I let sit a few hours longer and they were a bit darker. Now I'm a little less certain that I'm sitting on RWs and possibly some LGTs, who knows, thanks for the input
