Confused by partially colonized surface but getting pins

Spawned from uncle Ben to coir 10 days ago in shoebox. Confused what I did wrong since the surface isn’t colonized properly but the pins have started. I’m leaving the box lid on top but it has a small gap for FAE. Temp is around 71-72 every day. Pic is hard to see but I have counted 8 pins this morning. What did I do wrong?
Thank you and happy new year

Shit will rush to fruit if it's bacterial enough. I'd say that's probably your problem.good thing is you can snag a clone and a few prints and try a def tek. .

Well ive read early pinning is usually due to contamination, maybe go ahead n throw another better pic up and someone with better eyes n experience can give you advice.
Likely itll be make sure agar and spawn are clean.
Hope ya still get at least a few fruits to clone n print!

The top layer can just act like a casing layer or as said it could be bacterial spawn

It doesn't matter what i think of you...all that matters is clean spawn I'm tired do me a favor

What’s that spot in the upper middle part?? Looks blue/green.
I had this happen recently when I tried a shoebox with only a pint of spawn instead of a quart. Instead of a normal flush it just put out a few mushrooms at a time. I figured it was bacterial but nothing has shown up yet a couple weeks after the first one popped up.
Good luck.

When you say the top can act as a casing layer does that mean I shouldn't expect the surface to look fully colonized?
As in the pins will just poke through over time and turn into fruit?

Oh good eye, turns out its a piece of plastic that came with the coir I bought. Thought I picked out all of them but this once stuck around.
Its true now that I think of it maybe my ratios were just a little low.
