Composting Mushrooms
    #26410887 - 01/01/20 02:46 PM (1 year, 1 month ago)

Hello,

I had a random idea while considering compost
content good for mushrooms.

Can you compost a mushroom like a vegetable?
Could you compost a bunch of fresh psilocybe
and end up with a potential substrate made entirely
out of of psilocybin? Would composted hemp or marjiuana
be suitable food for mushrooms?

Can I grow psilocybe squared?

If it was that easy, then everyone would just do it.

Also, this isn't an Advanced Mycology topic.

I've composted straw/coffee oyster logs for years. It just gets used on the vegetables but I don't see why it would be a bad substrate. That said it's probably full of spores. But cube spores hardly contaminate cube sub so...

Yes, when fruits rot or become contaminated you are experiencing that. Even some fungi thrive by decomposing and eating exclusively mushrooms.

I don't think so, psilocybin and psilocin would decompose, because of the action of microorganisms, their temperature and humidity (needed for composting). If that didn't happen, people wouldn't be dehydrating mushrooms.

Depending on the specie, if it can decompose cellulose. Psilocybe Cubensis would do it, but don't expect high performance or THC in your fruits.

Have a nice day!

Have you tried different mushroom species compost? Was it sensitive? Would be interesting to experiment with.
