The New Year (for this forum) 2

For the love of God, everyone is at each others throats, puppeteers are going bye bye (good thing), and our little forum chugs and limps on....in other words the status quo on bath salts.
Would like input on some new things we could do around here, to make it better. Of course, we need Enlil's approval. Below is a list, please add to it:
1. Update and change stickies/some house cleaning.
2. Expound on the no flame/puppet/bannable rules. Lately there seems to be confusion.
3. Dedicated "Thunderdome" threads that two people debate with an impartial judge or vote by community.
3. Contest/giveways for bets and wagers. For example, I have some politcal memorabilia to wager.
4. Enlil starts one thread a month on any given topic. If anyone derails the thread (based on his judgment) they receive a one week ban.
5. "Best post" of the month thread.
.....again, any suggestions.

Great thread idea!
1. What changes to the stickies are you considering?
2. What's the confusion? I haven't noticed but I'm not always super tuned in.
3. Definitely into this - I'd even be willing to make the opening argument. I'll think of a topic and bump the formal debate thread to find a challenger.
4. Could be fun - i'm willing to try it at least. It will be a challenge to avoid falling into old off topic standards
5. Nominations and votes I assume? Any thoughts on how the would work? I like thr idea
I'll try to think of any additional ideas! Great thread and happy new year

I like the rules. and how they are exposed, if anything people should present themselves. But there are too much people to make it worth it i guess

I like the idea, but i think the moderators do more work that just having a strict law and strict law enforcement policy, they take each case individually.

I like the idea of people debating, i find repulsive the existence of a judge choosing the winner. Even more abject for me would be it decided by votes.

The problem with that, is that one can use an argument to prove his point, and without addressing that argument one must consider the initial point as valid. Nesting and ramifications in discussion are desirable when discussing.

I find this idea totally repulsive.
I think the main improvement would be to bring more people here willing to engage in discussion.

They are just suggestions, sorry you feel they are repulsive. Compared to the other subforums, it seems we should do some spring cleaning....I could be wrong.

I thought they were all good ideas. I don't think living failure speaks english as their first language. As a result, they don't always seem adept at getting a negative point across with tact. Then again, native speakers often have trouble with that as well.

1.Maybe a sticky with generic political and economic descriptions (like socialism, statism, etc.) that can expound/clarify things for people. They can denote the extreme and weak stances. Semantics can be a bitch.
2. Maybee I am confused, there seems to be ALOT of puppets lately
3. Glad you like the mono e mono debate setup, it has been done a couple of times...it seems issues dont derail as much. I would gladly debate you regarding an issue you deem important.
4. I think it would be cool for our Mod to start a thread with any special parameters....that would be up to him.
5. Post of the month should not be a popularity contest...or who had the best zinger.....it doesnt even have to be an argument one accepts; just a thoughtful post/ "I didnt know about that" type post.
Again, just trying to make this place the best it can be....the forum will only be as good as those that occupy it.

1. I'm open to ideas
2. The flaming rule seems pretty straightforward. I can't identify every possible type of flame, and some of you fuckers are pretty tricky at pushing the limits while being able to claim deniability. Ultimately, A lot of discretion comes into play. See rant below:
3. Anytime someone wants a dedicated thread, all they need is ask, and I will set the permissions accordingly.
3. Why do we need two 3's?
4. I'm not big on vanity threads. I'm a humble guy without strong opinions.
5. I don't know how this would work. See rant below:
I love this forum, and I love you guys...even the assholes among you. There is something to respect about each of you, and I vehemently disagree with almost every one of you on significant things. When you guys bicker about each other, it's sometimes a family working out its issues. Sometimes it's flaming. Sometimes it's way out of line. The difference may be in tone, or it may be in my mood when I read it. I can't promise to always be tuned in properly.
The core people here are, by and large, sincere in their approach. Most of you have teeth, though, and you do bite at each other. Some of you more than others. I never ban because I dislike someone. I ban because it's the tool I have to send a message. Unfortunately, in this forum, I can't just send a message because that just turns into a PM debate. All of you guys are hardcore debaters.
My worry is that a "best post" thing will become, for lack of a better term, political. The perception of favoritism is already so strong that I worry it will become axiomatic in member's minds.

We'll just need a dedicated thread where two elected members of the forum thread can spend the next two weeks thoroughly debating the merits of the previous month's post of the month, at which point the remaining members of the forum vote of the best debater, and, by extension, generally pick a post of the month from their party.

I think we should just continue to support or slam each other. No need to formalize it.
