Rusty coloured blotches and liquid metabolites in colonised grain jars

Hi everyone,
Excuse my lack of knowledge, this is my first time using grain spawn. I have several jars that appear to be fully colonised. The jars all visibly contain liquid with slight yellow tinge, that I believe is mycelium metabolites. There is also yellow discolouration of some portions of mycelium, which I assume is due to the metabolite liquid. Upon close inspection, I noticed that most of the jars have multiple small, rusty-orange blotches on the mycelium at the very bottom of the jar. There are almost none of these spots present in the mycelium in the main body of the jars. A small number of the spots are almost black in colour, with rusty edges.
I have attached pictures which show the liquid, the rusty-orange blotches and some discoloured mycelium.
I assume the rusty blotches are contaminants, and the metabolite liquid is the mycelium's response. Has anyone observed similar contamination before?

I haven't seen the rusty looking spots but I have seen the orange-ish liquid in my grain spawn. The grain sits up against the glass and looks wet. see below. This isn't that orange, though, but resembles parts of your jar. I was told this was signs of bacteria. My jars were deemed slightly bacterial, see thread here. Good news is that these jars produced wonderful results, seen later on in the thread. I just put jar that looked less bacterial than yours, but more than mine, to sub and it is currently producing well, albeit slow to colonize by 3 days (no pictures of that jar). Your jar is definitely questionable, but I would go to sub with that jar to see what happens. But you should monitor closely and toss at the first sign of contamination.

Hi Raccoon,
Thanks for the response. You're probably right, it does seem like a bacterial issue. I do see grains that appear wet and stuck to the glass, in every jar. I'm going to spawn the jars in the next couple of days, it seems like a massive waste of time and effort to toss them. I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks again.
