Will Cordyceps Militaris fruit on rye/oats?
    #26408199 - 12/30/19 05:38 PM (4 years, 30 days ago)

I recently got a cordyceps LC to experiment with. I was inoculating some other jars, so without having done any research, I decided to inoculate a couple of my oat jars with cordyceps.
The mycelium is growing quite vigorously, and has outgrown all the other species by far, including the oysters. The cordyceps is almost fully colonized, while everything else appears to just be getting started.

I'm wondering if it's possible to just fruit them right in the grain jars?
I did a search on here and google, but am not coming up with much.
I did find this: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/25404221
but it doesn't say if they used the whole grains or not.

I realize the cordyceptin levels may be low, but I am really just trying to get some fruits quickly in order to gets some prints.

for sure. they'll fruit on straight white rice. to fruit invitro, fill the jar with like 1.5'' of substrate and move them to light upon full colonization

Since the jars are 2/3 full I was thinking about emptying them out into a Glad food storage container  to get the 1.5" of substrate. Should I add anything or just keep it simple and try to fruit off the plain oats?
I was thinking about mixing the colonized oats with some rice that has some of that "broth" people use as an additive to rice for codyceps...maybe half and half.
I went over to the cordyceps FB page that WildernessJunkie suggested above, and it seemed like a few were growing it off of grains, but a common complaint was that it dried out too easily. I was thinking the rice would help solve that.
