This is my first monotub grow. Second grow over all. BRF cakes were my first. Do these look okay the pins are growing up through the top layer of mycelium and the myc looks a bit dense and fuzzy.

Very bacterial and possibly too wet. Good luck my friend. Any fruit is a blessing at this point.

Can you share what about this looks bacterial to you? To say I'm new is an understatement; I'd appreciate an opportunity to learn.

Same! Because my grains immediately grew like that. And all the jars smelt healthy that I used. I lost 4 out of 18 so I feel pretty good that I know what a bad one smells like.

What are your temps Like? You won't always smell contans but you can see reactions. Like this overly colonizing bubbling effect is typical of a bit of bacteria and sometimes mycogone. Of course it's gonna smell fine, you could also walk into a room with 1000 scented candles and fart and still smell nothing but candles but deep down in your heart you know it's there

It doesn't matter what i think of you...all that matters is clean spawn I'm tired do me a favor

https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/23662280 https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/25734500 Here is a little info on that.
https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/17231150/fpart/1/vc/1 How it should and shouldn't look.
There is no obvious discoloration, so we are looking at how thick and blobby the mycelium looks. Its easier to identify when you know what good spawn looks like. Your eyes will get better at catching contams/things that are off over time, just need a few grows under your belt.

Im keeping the temps mid 70's. It fluctuates between 73-79. Ill look into mycogone never heard of it. Would you just toss it? or would any fruits be safe to consume?

No don't toss it a fruiting sub can normally fend for itself with bacteria just watch for molds and yes your fruits are fine

Just the way the myc looks in my experience. Here is a tub that I have going now that the substrate was too wet at spawn I was trying to squeeze it out as I went. Looks similar to yours. Thankfully it looks like I'll get some fruits - but I wont get a canopy from it.

No dont toss it! I've had some tubs that recover slightly from that. This was was spawned in late November and it's just now about ready to harvest. It took so long to fend of what ever it was fighting that the substrate started shrinking and started side pinning. Some fruits fruits are better than none!

Yeah I think I'm actually going to get a decent flush. One of my three tubs was actually healthy and has a ton of knots. The one in the pic has 3 more pins and I can see a fair bit of knotting under the thick mat on top, same with the third tub. I'm going to let them run their course. I found this thread that makes me think it was just too wet or I had the conditions in my box off. (Field capacity for my sub was like 4-5 qts water and I went a bit on the high end 4.5-4.75 so ill do 4.25 next time. Thanks for the input.

A trick with the side pinning. Go buy some black 3 mil or whatever mil plastic they have at home cheapo and wrap the outside of the box like a present then put the liner on the inside of the box and fill it with the substrate then trim the plastic. You can see it in mine.
