Potassium polyacrylate instead of peat moss/coco coir??
    #26406438 - 12/29/19 02:11 PM (4 years, 1 month ago)

Did anyone give it a try? I find it perfect for me, here are some advantages:
- Can be ordered online cheaply, and takes no space for storage.
- Totally kills all other used materials with water retention (800 times distilled water or 300 times in tap water.)
- 0% nutrients and contams can't eat it.
- No mess, easy to work with, more reliable result since it's base moisture level is always the same( if kept I jar or something..)
- Looks cool
- PH around 7
- Non toxic.
- Comes with free Potassium which is a good supplement for the mycelium!
- Available in many "grain sizes".
It should hold pressure cooking based on this char, polyacrylate degrade after 300°c and temperature at 15 psi is 120°c

Here is a video showing a close up of the material

Disadvantages:
  - More expensive.
  - Degrade with time(should be good after 6 month of use, so we're good).
  - Degrade if exposed to UV for a longtime. No prob for us..
  - Must find Potassium based and not Sodium.

Found if around 12€/100gram free shipping to France on AliExpress, I'll order some, try it, then I'll report back here or in a new post.
Do you think this polymer stands a chance against other traditional bulk materials?
You may choose only one

There used to be a casing tek using these water crystals it just never caught on. I've never tried but I'm sure there is a good reason they aren't commonly used in mush cult, despite having been discussed before.

I think it's not used because the "unfamiliarity"  with polymer. I think it has the potentials to replace bulk materials or at least bring some improvements. I'll put it into test we'll see :goodluck: although I fail like 99.99% shit I try

Oh I see, but what's the point of just mixing a % with the casing? I would love a spawn/polymer tek! I mean if it's good enough...
