MP tape is somewhat restrictive. Try blowing through a hole that's covered with it...

Either way it's ok for the air to be somewhat restrictive for jars all you need is some gas exchange not free flowing air currents...

Also I always only used 1 layer of micropore tape on my pastyplates and never had any problems with contaminates, 3 layers sounds totally unnecessary.

Bottom line is brf jars with a dry layer if verm do not need any tape over the holes, period...

This is just what I've observed in my limited experience...
