So some days ago (never really keep track) I planted some Black Swan P. Somniferum seeds and they germed so I decided to post a pic since I haven't seen many on here.

Nice. Black Swan have a decent potency for an ornamental cultivar. I'm growing lots of industrial cultivars this year.

I grew some of the "Black Swan" variety last year around my yard & garden.
Not much, just a small plot from a single pack of seed...I was growing them mostly as an ornamental around the yard/garden among other flowers, the cups of tea they provided me with was just a bonus lol.
I don't have a lot of experience with poppy specifically, but I felt the Black Swan did have decent potency, they worked just dandy for me...4 to 5 small pods was enough to have me buzzing all day long with a warm euphoric & uplifting buzz.

Kinda funny...the reason I came into the enthnonbotanical forum today was to see if anyone else has started to sow their poppy seed or if there was any chit-chat going on about poppies, funny to see this thread...Because I'm going to be sowing some Black Swan seed today actually, from the seed I got from my poppies I grew last year. And also some other variety that I'm not familiar with and haven't grown yet.
Can't believe it's already time to start working the soil and growing things again .

Depends on your climate. If your in a warm location to can sow them in from Nov until Jan. So they germinate and over winter as seedlings. If your in a colder climate sow them as your snow beg s yo melt.
Warm location, I don't know what autocorrect made it war relocation.

For our region (IIRC you're in/around the SF bay), right now is a good time. I sowed my poppy seed yesterday and the day before. I was going to wait until February but it's been relatively mild out this winter so I figured I'd get started on it now. Out in the bay you can likely sow poppy anytime through out late fall & winter.
I'd say Feb or March at the latest....I feel like right now is an ideal time to do so though. Cold nights, sunny days with moist cool air. No major rain in sight for at least a week or more (rain can wash away poppy seed pretty easily).
I find that once soil temperatures become too warm they will not germinate, I'm not sure what specific temp is "too warm" but probably somewhere around 60 degrees and up is too warm. Last year I had a very high germination rate around early March, then just a couple weeks later it was a tad bit warmer outside and I could not get ANY more to germinate at all. A friend of mine ran into the same issue.
So I'm starting much earlier this year.
I also find it takes about 10 to 14 days for germination. And they grow very slowly and they are quite fragile for the first couple weeks, then they seem to explode in their rate of growth.

How many flowers/pods per plant on average? Out of a few seeds that germinated in the pot, I thinned to 1 lasting seedling.

highly dependable on genetics and environment. some cultivars only produce one pod even in the best conditions, others can produce 50+ if overwintered.
