You'll get sick (gastric upset) if you don't cook it well - supposedly a minimum of 20 minutes. Apparently this can vary from person to person, some people don't react as much as others.
I don't favour Leccinum species very much myself though.
Other than that, from your description of the host tree I'd believe L. manzanitae is likely.

Improper identification and not thoroughly cooking can both be reasons.

I found some closely related Leccinum ponderosum earlier this year. I was having it positively ID'd at a mushroom clinic (and wanted to ask about it's edibility) and was told they are one of those mushrooms that some people are sensitive to.
There was a person there who teaches a wild mushroom cooking class. She said she personally enjoys them and they've never made her sick, but she has heard something like up to 60% of people will experience gastric upset if they eat them, so she's never been willing to take the chance of using them in a class. She wasn't sure that figure is actually true or not.... but if it is there's a high likelihood someone in the class will leave feeling bad, so it's a no go. I asked what they taste like - she said like mild porcinis - less rich and buttery.
p.s. - I didn't actually eat it. I had also picked a big bucket of matsutake that day. I had enough of a time getting all of those cooked before they went bad. I never had time to prepare the bolete.
-------------------- Disclaimer - I'm just a hobbyist and cannot absolutely guarantee any ID offered. I'm most familiar with the species found in the Pacific Northwest - those found in other parts of the world may vary considerably, so always do your own research to find out what grows in your area and what lookalikes you need to be aware of. Understand that many mushroom species cannot be 100% reliably identified by photographs alone, even by an expert, so it may not be possible to go beyond suggesting a probable genus.
