Pressure Cooker Venting

Hey all,
Had a question about PCs. Common knowledge is that venting is essential, but I was wondering when you guys vented? A lot of teks show that you leave the weight off of the PC until you hear the hiss of air / steam escaping for ~15 mins or so, and then put the weight on until the PC comes up to pressure.
I was thinking, though, wouldn't it be better to keep the weight on from the beginning, let the PC come up to pressure, and then take the weight off to vent? My reasoning is that the increased pressure means the air will vent faster, and ensure beyond reasonable doubt that all air is evacuated after the 15 minutes.
Maybe I'm overthinking things, any thoughts would be appreciated.

This is from the presto manual, not sure what PC you have:
13. When pressure has been completely reduced, remove the pressure regulator from the vent pipe and let the canner cool for 10 minutes. Do not remove the pressure regulator until pressure is completely reduced and the air vent/cover lock has dropped. Always remove the pressure regulator before opening the cover.

Ah, so it's a safety thing? That's weird because some PCs have rapid release toggles, which do the same thing as removing the regulator. Odd.

There’s not going to be a balloon mass of ‘old air’ at the top waiting to get out, the air and water vapor mix. Venting at the beginning allows the air mix to slowly get expelled and replaced with water vapor. In addition fast cycling of the PC is bad for the jars and potentially the PC. You never want to be popping the weight off at 15 PSI in the first place. Safetywise, you can vent your PC from 15 to 0 and get the lid off much faster than the water inside can actually cool down or vaporize, leaving you with superheated water than can flash boil when disturbed.

I have a pressure cooker with a steam/1/2 dial (0/10/15psi), similar to the one in the pic. I vent 10 mins and do it at the '2' setting (15psi). I could also do it at the 'steam' setting, but the '2' produces a steam cone just as nice (once pressure is reached and hob is left on full heat), so I figure it's better to spend the 10 mins at 15psi than 0. Sure, it's an air-steam mix that gets expelled, but I can't immediately see how venting at the start (at 0psi) would improve the efficiency of the process?

might've saved my life down the road with this info. Thanks. I always used to rush the process towards the end.

The venting at the beginning is once the lock pops up, then vent for 10min minimum. If you wish to shorten the wait on cool down run cool water over the unit until pressure hits zero and the lock drops. The qater inside will still be hot so a bit longer wait and or extra care to avoid burns from any light steam rising should be considered.
