Fungi identification request
    #26400215 - 12/25/19 08:42 AM (4 years, 1 month ago)

Habitat:
Growing on a dead eucalyptus trunk/roots and just this fall it started growing in the base of a pine tree that is close to it.

Other information:
It just grows like that when it's wet in the fall and winter then goes brown/black when its dry outside, I noticed it 2 years ago and it's still just growing like that without ever fruiting or anything, I don't know if it's a sclerotia or some different type of chaga...

Might be a polypore because the one growing from the ground, in the roots of the dead eucalyptus, has some sort of pores/small holes.

I can post more pictures if needed.

I think it's some sort of crust fungus. I don't really know anything about them but it kind of looks like phlebia radiata. The wrinkled crust fungus. It'll grow on both hardwood and coniferous trees as well so this seems possible to me.

What does it feel like when you run your fingers across it?

The outside layer is soft, the inside is hard as wood, I added some pictures.
