Question about possible contaminated syringe and next steps

Hi all, I hope you can help.
I had two syringes with different strains (Brazil and B+). I inoculated BRF jars at the same time under same conditions (in a box, flame sterilizing between jars, etc.).
All the Brazil's looked good, were dunked and rolled, and I put them in my SGFC yesterday. The B+ are a day behind - soaking now - but I had planned to put them in the same FC (the only one I have).
3 of the B+ cakes looked fine and as I say are soaking now. 3 of the B+ cakes looked like they had mold. I cut out the mold parts and they are also soaking now in a separate container.
Here's my questions:
- I'm thinking the 3 contaminated B+ cakes should just be dumped, even though I cut out all the mold I saw. What do you think?
- Since all cakes were inoculated at the same time and under the same conditions, including flame sterilization between jars, I'm wondering if the B+ syringe itself was contaminated?
- If so, then would ALL my B+ cakes have mold - even the 3 that look good? And should I dump those?
- If I keep any of the B+ cakes is it ok to put them in the same FC with my good Brazils or would that just contaminate the Brazils also?
I hope that's clear. And thanks.

Hey spyrelx!
I would like to start by saying pictures would definitely help you to get quicker results and feedback with your questions.
I would personally dump the cakes. Especially if the mold turned color, and if it did, then it sporulated and that nonsense will go everywhere.
Spore prints and spore syringes are inherently dirty, while some can have success by going straight to BRF or grain with MS, its pretty much survival of the fittest in there.
Whether or not those other cakes are contaminated cant really be determined without pictures, but I would recommend spawning in separate FCs.
Also, have you considered getting into agar work?

Thanks man, I appreciate the response. I bought the syringes commercially - through one of the known web providers, though I recognize that doesn't guarantee non-contaminination. Unfortunately I didn't take pictures and have already cut out and discarded the parts of the cakes that look like mold. I'm not competent enough to create my own spore samples, etc.
To clarify, 3 of my B+ cakes looked like they had mold but the other 3 showed no signs of mold. I'm pretty much committed to dumping the three B+ cakes that showed mold (and that I did surgery on). Do you think it would be prudent to dump the other three? If not, should I separate them (and rig up an alternative FC)?
Thanks.

Start over with Patsy plates/agar and 1-2 drops from syringe to agar. Transfer away from contaminants then go to grain. WBS is easy to use, check out Frank Horrigans teks on here.
None of this is difficult nor expensive. I would never go from syringe or print directly to grain, agar is too easy not to use. Check it out.
