Hey guys, do you know why my jars grow differently?
It's new to me. They've been inoculated and shaken all at the same time.
For some reason 4 of them are fully colonized already and these 3 stopped growing basically. I used to make jars the same way in the past and everything was nice and even.

Dis they stop growing after the shake? If so that probably means a bacterial contam.

You can still recover if you pick some oats off and throw it onto an agar plate then isolate. Dont get discouraged

What method did you inoculate with? A straight ms syringe to grain will have a terrible success rate. Survival of the fittest 🤙🏻. Isolating after this will keep the fighters. I did 20 some odd jars like that recently and just got a few spots colonized in the 7 that turned out. Easily less than a 33% success rate like that. Dont expect much. It's just wasteful tbh.

Did you follow a tek for those lids? They just seem janky. You have to invest in quality materials if you want a quality project. It sucks, I know. Being broke is awful. Mycology teaches patience throughout various aspects of cultivation.

How dry/wet were those grains? Moisture has a huge roll to play with bacteria/contams.
A golden rule you'll come across often.
water is the pathway/breeding ground for bacteria avoid it.

How many jars did you start with? I'm curious about your success rate.

I used some of my Albino LC for those jars. My first 2 times I had 100% success rate with jars, never had such a problem before. This is my third time and I did 7 jars of this strain and only 4 came out fully colonized.

I actually learned that tek from some local guy. It worked perfectly fine before, you don't need to over complicate things since jars dont sit around for too long. I usually make silicon injection ports for LC lids. FYI there is nothing to do with being broke X)

Yeah, I guess rye was too wet this time and some bacteria took over it.
Thanks for all of your responses!

I've been toying around with idea of prepping grain on the dryer side before pouring LC into it. The thought behind it is that the dryer grain will pull the LC in and help hydrate it, making it take off quicker
