Shaking LC jars with a syringe filter

I just shoke the shit out of one of my jars and noticed a couple drops came out of the syringe filter.
I'm wondering if the LME saturated filter could be a wick for contaminants or if it doesn't even matter if something Is growing on the outside if it because it's a .22 micron filter.
I mean they are made to filter out bad shit right?

Yes, but i wud imagine that if it cud be saturated (wet nutes) then shit cud grow through it. I thnk it's one of them possible but not probable things.

Most people swirl lc jars and try to not get the filter wet. Im no LC expert but im pretty sure it can cause problems.

Ya I shook them both pretty hard in order to break up the mycelium since I dont have a stir plate...
I thought that was common practice?
I'm not even gonna bother using them if theres a chance that a wet syringe filter could wick contams into the jar...
Thanks guys.

Most people put some glass or a marble inside so the mycelium easily breaks apart when it’s swirled around.

Ya that's what I did I thought it was so I could shake it like a spray paint can 🤪
The last time I did lcs I used marbles and had 3 out of 4 jars break from shaking them...that should tell ya something...

Doesn't really need a filter or marbles. Then you can shake the shit out of it.

Test your lc on an agar plate or single jar and proceed from there. If you get a clean plate, roll with it.

Lol I used to use broken beer bottle shards. Now I just swirl it pre PC to check the volume inside to make sure it isn’t gonna touch the filter when I swirl it after inoculation once a day or so. 1/4-1/3 full usually does the trick

So anyways... would you guys use that lc that had a little liquid drip out the syringe filter?
Or does that seem too risky?

If it’s a whatman and you are confident in how you fixed it to the lid, it’s probably fine If this happened with a SFD filter I’d say no thank you.

I had a honey tek LC jar that had no contams in the beginning, that after my micropore tape got wet(swirled too hard), the next time I used it, it was contaminated on my grain and agar (pink contam). I'm not sure if syringe filters would do the same, but the multiple layers of micropore tape allowed contam in when wet.
Hope this helps. Best of luck.

Syringe filters are made to filter contams out of liquids though so it really doesn't even compare to micropore tape which isn't even a filter and doesn't have a standard pore size...
Thanks though

Thanks monkey. I wasn’t sure if they compared to micropore tape. Ive also purchased syringe filters but haven’t used them yet. Just wanted to share my experience with micropore tape in case they are similar. Thanks for the clarification.

I’ve never messed w syringe filters but they are theoretically the shit. Like Monkey said, the filtration effectivity is standard and specified for each unit. As for MP tape, it’s about as effective as toilet paper. https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=2&Number=13642707

Ya I use syringe filters and a manufactured SHIP that is used for medical vials. The syringe filter is only so you can draw out a given amount of liquid without creating a vacuum...
