I'm making agar to pour onto plates for the first time. I got some blue food coloring and the bottle doesn't have a drip top. I accidentally poured about a 1/2 a shot glass worth of food coloring for 500 ml water, 13g agar, 10g LME. Will this affect the growth? Shall I start again? Don't have much time right now, would appreciate some help asap. Cheers

That's a shit ton of food coloring man...mycelium seems to actually like/eat the food coloring but that's a pretty extreme amount...

I wouldnt do it it probably wouldnt matter but sho knows I doubt anyone here has actually used agar eith that much coloring in it...

Do u have anymore agar?

Why so much?

I'd stick to 2%

I do yeah.. But I'm pressed for time.. If I'm gonna start again it needs to be now.. I've had my whiskey bottle in the pressure cooker for 25 mins already.

I would just do it right with a couple drops I'd hate to pour plates and find out it fucks with the mycelium

Last time I made agar for pasty plates, it came out pretty liquidy. 2 plates were kind of slushy and not useable. Maybe my agar is weak

No clue I got it in bulk from a store that sells spices. Last batch was with 10g so 2%, 13g is just slightly more, but it should be a little sturdier.

Do you have pics of the previous plates you've poured?
Did you have problems with condensation build up?
Try pouring thinner, at a cooler temp.
Maybe the agar you picked up in bulk was set to expire?? 🤷🏼‍♂️
