Veil teared?

Did the veil tear on this mushroom. If so can I let it go longer to get a bigger fruit or should I just harvest now?

you can let it get bigger. the cap will open, flatten, then curl up while the fruit continues to grow in size over the next 1-2 days from the time of the picture. if you don't want spores all over the substrate then pick it in the next 12-24 hours.

Depends on what's important to you. I think P. cubensis fruits taste better if picked before they sporulate. If you pick them small, you probably get more mushrooms and you probably get production (and fresh mushrooms) over a longer time. If you intend to dry them anyway, you may as well let them get bigger and minimize your work be encouraging discrete flushes that you put in the dehydrator.

This never made sense to me. Those spores are already in the cap before the veil tears. You are still eating the same amount of spores regardless of whether they have been ejected or not.

I'm pretty sure that's not the case. Sporogenesis doesn't stop and as the veil breaks and the cap expands more spores are being produced.
