I saw him only once in Miami, too uptight for a hug I was. But one page from his first book The Only Dance There Is became the seed for my 222 PhD dissertation. I have been listening to his recordings since 1973. He has taught me so much and guided me for so long. My heart is rent. Meanwhile, torrential rains soak Miami. The sky is weeping for me.

Wow. That man was enormous in life. A psychedelic saint.
We are better for having known him.

I feel that his power will grow even greater now that he's left this plane.

It'd be great to here from Shroomerites the specifics of how he impacted their lives. I'll share some of my own some time soon.
Jai Guru Ji!

My body I will give to pleasures, to diversions that I’ve dreamed of, to the most daring erotic desires, to the lustful impulses of my blood, without any fear at all, for whenever I will— and I will have the will, strengthened as I’ll be with contemplation and study— at the crucial moments I’ll recover my spirit as was before: ascetic.”

It is a very very sad loss for the world indeed However, personally I think he is probably somewhere much lighter now, without the physical pain he has had to endure for a number of years. We view death as this great ending, with mourning and despair, but for the soul, it might be a transition to a beautiful new state of being

Tomorrow, when resurrection comes, The heart that is not in love will fail the test. ~ Rumi The day we start giving Love instead of seeking Love, we will have re-written our whole destiny. ~ Swami Chinmayanada Saraswatir

That saying about celebrating his life rather than mourning his death doesn't fall so flat here.
Ram Dass lived an extraordinary life of rich meaning and discovery, and he was compassionate enough to patiently and lovingly describe that to us so it would be easier for us to find for ourselves.
I think a lot of us on this website can identify with the way his evolution as a human emerged.
Of course he passed away. He was an old man. Now he is on the other side, having accomplished so very much in the life he left behind.
Quote:
"I've come home now Fetch me the spirit, the son, and the father Tell them their pillar of faith has ascended It's time now, my time now Give me my, give me my wings"
