About to have some German Heeler puppies

Or Blue Sheppard's, not sure what to call them. It may be a long night for me and my female Blue Heeler. A couple months ago our German Shepherd chewed through a steel door and had a lil fun, well... Tonight she wont leave her dog house and wont let him near it either. She has a swollen vulva and discharge and is acting very worried. I think she's about to pop. I believe they will be a very interesting mix. Anybody know of or have this particular mix?

With genetics like that those are going to be some smart dogs with a lot of energy. I had a Heeler/Lab mix, she was smart and all business.

My favourite breed you've got there. Brave and intelligent and fiercely loyal. Good for you mate. You in Oz?
Don`t see em much round these parts, that's for sure, and I'll be looking come February next year.

Heelers are the BEST!!! Absolutely love these dogs. Will never find a more loyal and hard-working and intelligent dog. They will kill themselves just to make you happy (but I'm sure you know this already ) Mine has saved my life more than once, either by leading me 4 miles through the forest in the dark, or by keeping mountain lions and bears at bay through the night. You don't take Australian Cattle dogs on walks, you take them on walkabouts. Me and my GF are wanting to breed my heeler with her husky. (Heelsky? Husker?) German Shepard heeler mix is going to be a strong, smart, and very energetic dog. I'm sure they will be a pain in the ass in the younger years but I can't imagine them being anything other than great as the grow.

How did you come across your ACD here (sounds like you're in the states)?

My dad worked as an EMT when I was young and would work some rodeos in the more rural parts of the state occasionally. One day a farmer came in with a box of blue heeler\border collie pups free to a good home. Ever since then I was hooked! About 6 years ago I was living by myself in a large city and decided it was time to get a dog of my own and knew an ACD was exactly what I wanted. I love camping\hiking\mountain biking\rafting and wanted a dog that would follow me anywhere and watch my back. On a whim on that day I googled cattle dogs in the area and found a farmer about 90mins from where I was that had a few pups lefts that were just a few days away from weaned. Called them the next day and picked him up area days later. It's been me and him versus the world ever since.
If you are looking for one, it seems the are popular among farmers but have to catch the right one at the right time. Don't see them advertised much. And the definitely have a cult following so people who know just know and scoop them up pretty quickly.

Thanks man, I appreciate the lowdown. I've some real ethical concerns about going to a breeder and I think the chances of one coming up for adoption round these parts are very slim, so it's a bit of a dilemma. I know, way deep down, that it's the breed for me. I just have to hope one comes up I guess!

Completely understand that. Had several dogs throughout my life including some "high end" pure breds but all were free to a good home situations. When I googled looking for my current dog, adoption sites are what I first looked at but either couldn't find any or they were older (which I normally don't mind but this one instance I knew I wanted a young dog) There are some ACD rescues out there but again, it's all about timing and luck when it comes to finding one. I definitely got lucky with my guy. Best of luck man. If you know this is the breed you want, then it will definitely be worth it.

Yep, proper gut feeling the first time I came across it. Just like with all the things that are the most important to me in this life. It only takes a split second to 'know' when you know it's the one.

How'd it go OP? My first thought is complications. I've seen and heard of more than a few complications with females having pups from larger dogs. I had a lil chow mix and she got knocked up by a king Shepard, the delivery was pretty rough. Bet they'll be awesome dogs though, I like the sound of Blue Shepard
