Solistices are my two favorite days of the year. I can't wait for days to start getting longer again.

Has got fuck all to do with it.
The solstice should be a celebration of scientific methodology (how else did the ancients discover when the winter and summer soltices occurred) over superstition, which it was before the Christians usurped this natural festive period, celebrating the increasing daylength, for their own ends and now, ironically, they bleat on about how 'their' tradition has been taken over my the merchants. clue, it aint from no bible!
Poor old Dickens must turn in his grave seeing how his character 'Scrooge' is now used to browbeat the working poor into handing over their hard won money to the very merchant class he was railing against.
How smaller would the worlds carbon footprint be if we stopped celebrating this festive period of wastefulness?

I get that I really do and applaud you for it. At the same time going to a festival to do drugs on celestial events isn't the Nobelist either. Even though it makes about as much sense as spending money on family to show some hope.
