Cops don't get paid to make policy, only to enforce it.

Politicians don't get paid to enforce policy, only to make it.

It's all fucking Babylon, which ever way you slice it.

Nah they are just assholes who've been armed (not just in the physical sense) by politicians.

Strictly talking USA here though

Cops are just armed security guards, unless you live in the USA in which case your mall cops and campus cops also have guns. Everyone has guns. Murica.

Id say, in my experience, most cops are tripping on power and are just straight bullies. But some are actually stand up people

Jokeshopbeard is probably the closest.  Although cops have a lot of lobbying powers.  It's a system of power that only benefits itself.  Hence babylon.

Thankfully over here our politicians have yet to arm the police.

Taser stun gun use by police in and England and Wales reached a record high last year.
Of 23,000 incidents in the last year when citizens were threatened by police with tasers they were only fired on 2,500 occasions.

18 people in the UK have died after a Taser was discharged against them by police since the device was introduced 16 years ago.

I wonder how many more would have died if our police were routinely armed with guns.

"A national survey by the Police Federation, which covers rank and file officers in England and Wales, found that 55% said they would carry a firearm if asked or ordered to, up 11% compared with when the last national survey was conducted in 2006. That response is different to the percentage who believe they and colleagues should be routinely armed, which was 34%, up since the last survey when it stood at 23%.

British police officers are traditionally unarmed, with guns going to those who volunteer and who undergo a high level of training. Only officers in Northern Ireland are routinely armed.
Police in England and Wales to be asked if they want to carry a gun
Read more

Of the officers who completed the survey 42.5% thought they and their colleagues should receive training and be armed as and when necessary, and did not back routine arming".

Makes you wonder why 57.5% of the police didn't want to see their colleagues armed.
Personally, I thank fuck for them.

I have neither the will not the ability to prove this statement wrong. Multiple court decisions have said that LEO have no obligation to assist, protect or help you in anyway. It is entirely up to them. They are not peace officers, they are policy enforcers. They are state sponsored Mafia style thugs with badges and a sheltered and protected position within the legal system.
a truck driver for the company I work for used to drive and impound tow truck for the police department in this city. This comes from their personal experience, not my own, though I have no reason to doubt what they say:
LEO in the city will confiscate drugs at traffic stops and not record them. They then sell these drugs through their own Network to friends and family of the department and municipal government  officials so they don't have to take the risk of getting arrested. This is openly talked about and seen as a positive thing. That mentality, and the widespread acceptance of it is at the heart of the issue.

You are not wrong

Within any jurisdictional or massive cooperation the people working within soon realise the black and white nature that creates the walls that separate those liable to a lawsuit and those liable to make a lawsuit. The company as a third party is doing this too, and if your work for the company, working to cover yourself also covers them (if they're smartly designed) and because of this any exterior party is always liable if subject to assault. Nothing wrong with that. What sucks is when the culprit asks for an explanations. As every person jumps through hoops to make sure they explain things in a way that won't jeopardise themselves, the culprit gets fed a word soup of crap undistinguishable to basically everyone.
With that in mind, I'm not surprised so many people hate on the police but they're just covering their ass and doing their job...

Years ago a swat team member shot his foot, or was shot by another member during training.  About that time a police officer in a school demonstration shot himself.

People shouldn't be trusted with cars, yet it's harder to get the ok to drive than have a gun.

Arm everybody. Even the animals.
But the idea that LEO get a pass if they make a mistake because their job is stressful and scary is asinine.
I haven't kept a count of stray dogs I have encountered in my life but it's been more than a few. Most were friendly. A few were timid, and at least 2 showed signs of aggression. In none of the encounters was my first thought "I need to kill this dog to save myself". But the fact is that they need no justification other than saying "I felt threatened" to act in exactly that manner and it is accepted as a unfortunate part of our society and left at that.
My friends and I spent a lot of time shooting and blowing things up in high school. (Not in school, but at that age). Cars, computers, refrigerators, Xboxes, whatever we had laying around. We were stupid kids and were usually sober, but not always. This was somewhat the norm for kids that age in my area. I recognize that I maybe treading into survivorism bias territory here, but if a bunch of high school kids in a field with some beer can manage to not hurt themselves or anyone (or thing) else then a trained professional that chose their situation should be able to as well. LEO should be terried of making a mistake. It should be their life\career on the line.
If a surgeon makes a mistake and someone is injured or killed, they are held accountable. The same should apply and even more intensely in this scenario. You can research and chose your surgeon. I've never seen credentials for an LEO that showed up to "help" and you have no say in who, when, how or if they decide to get involved.

You knkw how quick cops would disperse in certain neighborhoods in Newark, paterson, new york and Philly?

Crime rates would go throigh the roof, and every single American who could legally own a gun would

People in those open air drug markets in those cities would get so cocky and laugh at cops without weapons

In ghettos on the east coast i bet it would reduce patrolling/arrests in those neighborhoods, as thwyd b scared to even operate under unarmed circumstances

The gangs would take over even more territory and gang violence woukd skyrocket over turf wars and more innocents would be in danger

Lets unarm the troops while we're at it!

:dawerp:

Uncanny. This came up on my news feed and is related to a case just days ago of an officer shooting a family pet. In this case, the officer also shot himself. So not only do he exhibit poor judgement but also poor control of his firearm.
Quote from article:
"Not only are officer-involved shootings of animals not being tracked but officer-involved shootings of people are only tracked by the FBI on a voluntary basis. In other words, if law enforcement agencies choose not to report their shootings to the FBI each year, it does not matter. There is literally no accountability at the federal level for officer-involved shootings of any kind, unless of course the feds are called in to investigate on a case by case basis."
No oversight or accountability other than to their own.

There is also no registry for lobotomy which is still legal at every level in the USA.

The feds do not enforce civil rights.  They'd rather enforce laws to supress population.

No.  There’s plenty of armed politicians that are not cops.

In a literal sense:
Politics is the act\process of making policies. Politicians are the people working within this system of policy making. Politicians need a policing branch within their system to ensure these policies are enforced\followed, thus a police department.
