ID request
Location: Wood chip bed in the SF Bay Area. Took these from the same patch that I posted photos of in the CA thread the other day, but I'm having doubts as I'm not very experienced with woodlovers.
Slight discoloration along the edge of the caps, looks blue to me but stems seem to turn black where cut rather than the distinct blue I’ve seen in other photos.
No visible annulus
Discoloration on stems. Spore drops or bruising?
Spore print is in the works
I’m fairly sure these are cyanescens but I’m worried about galerina.

Any idea why they aren't bruising very much? I picked specimens of all ages and different levels of dryness and there's very little obvious bruising on any of them

It happens with some cyans. I had a patch that didn’t bruise at all, but they were still potent

According to a recently published study, the bluing occurs due to an enzyme, so possibly there is a variation in amounts of this particular enzyme which in turn determines the bluing reaction. Alan posted a link to the study a while ago, and I just scrolled through it so don't take my word here. I'll try to find the link so you can read for yourself.

Here's that paper angler is talking about: https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1002/anie.201910175
Another really cool thing about that paper is how they propose that the oligomerized indole products are toxic to insects.

I was trying to post that on shroomery news but couldn't figure out how to keep the ad photos out, I always delete something important.
Edit: breeg, I saw that about it being insecticidal but spring tails don't seem to be affected by it, so I wonder if some insects have a natural immunity. I find it exciting that someone is actually studying the different molecules of Psilocybin and it's components, it's about time.
