I always wanted a female kitten, found one near me, non pedigree
Thing is girls cost almost twice as much as Male kitten...
Maybe should I go for a boy kitten?? Anyone got any constructive recommendations??

Meow.
It'll be great whichever you chose. Unless she's in heat and you are shrooming. Cause that is weird stuff.

I've only had girls. They were/are both very loyal to me (in their own cat way). Just get whichever one seems the most interested in you or that the universe presents as the easiest overall option.

We have one boy and one girl. The girl is like three years old. The boy is like four months old. Both cats are great, but the girl is definitely more fickle and hard to deal with. The boy loves to cuddle, will pretty much plop down in the middle of the room, lay wherever he damn well feels like it. He's also a major pain in the ass, whereas the girl was never as mischievous or as energetic. In our area girls are more expesnive because they are much harder to fix, but the difference is only like $20. $90 for a boy, $110 for a girl. They usually come with a chip and a vet visit or two as well.

If you don't fix your pet you're not being very responsible as a pet owner, unless you plan on breeding it. It's GOOD to spay and neuter a pet!!!!

why is there any difference in your book? both animals can still have sex, though their drives are likely to be significantly reduced.

Do you think maybe you're projecting your own human feelings on the animal by thinking what it would be like if it happened to you? I think a lot of people do this. Animals DO NOT have HUMAN thoughts and feelings. Yes they seem to show emotions, but they have no idea the names of them, and this is still a projection onto the pet. Maybe. IMHE.

There’s a reason why every single shelter, store, reputable seller of cats spays and neuters every single animal. Not only do they make better house cats, they also won’t contribute to the strays population. If you aren’t prepared to accept this, you aren’t prepared to own a cat.

I neutered my dog and I do realize his awareness of the world is limited. Isn't all of our awareness's limited?
Surgery skills are only getting better. My first dog, they just cut his sack twice and took out the balls. They did not even stitch him up. My current dog, they cut at the very base of his shaft, before the balls. Great stitches and tiny cut.
Animals cannot say no to desire, I rarely can myself. They cannot pass up food and they live for food and sex. Animals that cannot find a good home, or stay in one have a terrible existence.

That's a bit of a silly thing to say mate. I'm not with spaying or neutering myself, but there are gonna be situations where it's for the best.

Spaying and neutering isn't just about reproduction. They calm down a lot, and it will almost certainly help maintain a pet that doesn't want to run away looking for a piece of ass due to hormones. Which would mean less worry and vet bills, as well as no surprise litters. It would make them friendlier with other cats and animals, less territorial.
IMO as far as getting a cat goes, males have a higher tendency to spray but if you neuter them at a young age and don't have a mean dog or horny ass female around they shouldn't do it at all. I've "had" cats that sprayed and it's horrible, but they weren't really my cats. They were victim to the aforementioned, really not their fault. I like males more though. Females are chill but males tend to have more personality and excuberance. If the females are that much more than the males I'd get a male, in fact I'd probably get one anyway. You're just saving money towards vet bills.

I have 2 males and 2 females. You have to spay and neuter or your cats will get wild when in heat. Since cats can have 3 litters a year, fixing them is a very responsible thing to do. My male cats are more affectionate than the females, they were neutered at around 8 months. Never sprayed and they are almost 3 years now.

Siamese are cool, but in my experience their temperament can be hit or miss (along with being cross-eyed). My favorite cat ever and the cat I dislike most were both Siamese.

KITTEHS!!!!!!!111
Cloe/Chloe is a good name for her.
for the first two to three weeks, it's best to add a little water to the kitteh chow to soften it up. she'll let you know when she's ready for dry food by not eating the mush anymore.

While cats do need way more protein than dogs, they also need legumes/starches and fruit. There are some really good cat foods out there that have peas/beans, sweet potatoes, cranberries, etc... in them. But make sure you buy kitten food, not cat food, as they can't digest as much protein yet. Giving her too much protein at this point, especially from meat, is not the best idea.

So much bullshit in this thread. Gypsy Boy...I just...*sigh*.
You really need to research things before just doing them because you think it's the right way. You are now completely and wholly responsible for another life form. You may have put thought into your decisions, but your posts at least do not reflect that.
Pet ownership is a responsibility, and you are their decision-maker. That means you need to make the best choices possible. THAT means that you need to know or find enough information to make an informed decision about things like "what kittens eat" "how to care for a kitten" "should I spay or not". Up until now, you have been making the wrong choices, not because you are TRYING to harm your kitten, but because you didn't have the information. Here's the thing, though: it doesn't matter why you make bad decisions for your kitten. The end result is that your kitten suffers, and needlessly.
Please do at least a few hours of research into kitten and cat ownership. Here are some cliff notes:
A. It's a little late for this one, but you REALLY shouldn't buy a kitten. It's usually much less expensive to adopt from a shelter, and shelters are often full. Also, they take care of a ton of stuff beforehand that you don't have to mess with, they will have their shots already taken care of, as well as being spayed or neutered.
B. You never mentioned this at all, but NEVER get your cat declawed. It's essentially cutting off the first joint of every single finger, and often leads to serious developmental and behavioral issues, as well as just being a straight-up shitty thing to do.
C. Give her kitten food specifically, as someone else mentioned. Mix water into her wet food, introduce dry food as well and she will start eating it when she is ready.
D. Don't give her milk. Statistically, a majority of cats are actually lactose intolerant, despite the association with cats and saucers of milk. Before kittens are weaned from their mom's milk, obviously they aren't intolerant, but they usually lose the enzymes that process dairy soon after that.
E. Do some legitimate research into owning a cat. Like, a couple days worth. You are the most important person in the world to this cat, because you essentially control her life. Make informed, smart choices. Be a responsible pet owner, because if you're not, I'll find you and kick you in the balls, repeatedly.

Also just wanted to add: it is often much easier owning 2 cats vs just one. They will require much less effort on your part, because they will bond and play with each other constantly. If you don't work from home, she will be bored all day and will probably eventually start destroying stuff unless she has someone to play with.
Also it's hilarious to see them sneaking up on and tackling each other.

I really like the name Aryll, I think it would be a good kitty name. It's Link's sister's name from Windwaker.

Get the kitty some homogenized milk until she can take water.
Kitten milk is a thing, and isn't that expensive considering how much they need. Most pet stores will have it, I've seen it at Walmart and same stuff at the Dollar Store. Cow milk would just make them malnourished and maybe give them the shits which will make things worse.

Just in case you overlooked these posts...here they are again. QFT.

So advice from someone who has fostered over 70 kittens in the last 2 years, raising them from tiny babies up to adoptable weight is bad?

Where did I say adult cat? Dude, I guarantee there are DOZENS of kittens the same age as the one you got, just waiting to be adopted in a shelter near you. You don't have to adopt a stray cat, even if you were looking for an adult cat (I know you're not) there are tons of surrendered adult cats that were just someone's pet. Not every adult cat is a stray.

What I said was:
Quote:
Ima Trooper said: B. You never mentioned this at all, but NEVER get your cat declawed.
Which I mentioned, because you'd been excitedly making very poor choices for your kitten since you bought her. Declawing is also a very poor choice, so I figured I would just get ahead of you there.

Judging by the amount of research you've done into how to care for a kitten, no, I think you haven't.

I was a little harsh in tone. I apologize for that. It just really bothers me seeing someone get a pet without having researched how to care for that pet and what owning that pet entails. It's not a small decision, you've committed time and money and effort to this cat for the next 15+ years. Why didn't you find out how to introduce a kitten to a new home, what to feed it, why it should get spayed or neutered?
You're going to need to find a good vet, get her shots on time, make sure she's litter trained, clean the litter box a minimum of once a day, research a healthy diet, etc. I understand a lot can go on behind the scenes of our posting, but your posts sounded a lot like "I wanted a kitten, I bought a kitten, YAAAAAYYYYY now I have a kitten!!"

Also, a kitten that young will need a minimum of several hours of play per day. If she starts getting bored and acting out by tearing things up, peeing or pooping outside the litter box, etc, that's possibly why.

Not exactly, the whole point of this thread was to discuss male / female gender specific aspects. Not how to cater for cats.

My cat is also retarded and refuse to drink for the water bowl. I learn that he drank from the tap. So investigating a little i learnt that there are little water fountains for cats, they cost like 20€ and since it is water flowing it is more likely for them to drink for it.
I used to give him BARF diet, but it is expensive and in summer (here we get over 40Cº) the food goes bad ultrafast, so i went back to solid food, which makes he shit like the triple of amount.
If she does not shit by herself, buy those little sticks with cottons that we humans use to clean our ears (i dont know the word in english) wet them a little and use it to "lick" her anus. I know it sounds perverted, but i swear to god is something their mothers do and it help them. Hold her and make her used to you handling her, moving her and make visits touch her and handle her too. It will make her trust more in you and other humans contact. Male cats are easier, female cats are harder and usually bond stronger with one human and worse with anything else, work on that. (but behaviour across races is really diferent and with multiple race cat you can expect anything)
Also, there are "contraceptives" for cats, you might really want to keep an eye on them and talk with the vet about it if you don't want it to be castrated. Female cats are insane in heat, like, it is so annoying you will end up putting her in the over or something, they suffer so much that they meow non stop for hours, expect also to wake up with cats pussy on your face.

There was a really heartbreaking story that was going around a few days ago, where a family's missing cat of like 6 years suddenly showed back up. But it was in dire shape and two days later had to be put down.
Really sad but at the same time, a pretty remarkable happy ending if you think about it -- it was as if the cat, which was a full blown stray at that point, came home one last time to say goodbye.
So the family at least got to see their cat one last time. And the cat reportedly lived for 19 years or so, which is a pretty full life for a cat.

I use it everytime i move places with my cat (once a year more or less, i had romeo for 3 years now). It works wonders, my sister used it when she adopted a new one (she had an old cat 13 years old) and it also worked well for those cats.
It lowers their anxiety and makes them eat, drink and shit more relaxed. No more "saying under the bed for 3 days".

My cat Rocky was a little dude
Tiny kitten and he stayed on the petite side for a male cat for the first few years (super athletic though, I swear he would've made the NBA league for cats if that were such a thing), but now he let himself go. He's a big boy. He weighs in around 13-14 pounds. Average house cat weights 8-10.

Shes been having a bit of diarrhea Shes on mixture of food, kitten food, wet and solid, a bit of adult cat food (Sheba)
Ad a bit of quality proper food - organic free range chicken breasts... sliced beef and kind size prawns .. which she absolutely loves.
Some dude said kittens cant have much protein.. maybe its because of that
ALso she drinks water which is good
