I've tried the No Soak No Simmer method but that leaves the jars very wet and sloppy

This is what I do and as long as I shake while hot and start with pretty close to the right amount of water, the grains seem to come out fine.  They always look dry on the top 5th but after a couple shakes look really good and grow spawn.  I just started back after a couple of years off and am not more than a beginning amateur and so take it for what it is worth.  It does require you only ending up with a jar about 4/5th full so you have room to shake.  I wish I could remember the weights of grain to water that I found somewhere on the big wide web but I marked a measuring cup after doing it the first time and don't remember them.  in grams it was 2oo something something grams grain to 1oo something something water.  When I did bags, it was 2lbs grain to 1.5lbs water.
Hope this helps more than hurts.
Cheers

There a definitely broken grains in there.

looks like crimped oats.  i've been doing a ton of reading as i head towards starting, focusing in on oats for the price and availability so been researching oats like crazy and those definitely look like crimped oats.  they are whole oats, they then steam them and roll them in a crimping machine which squashes them a bit.

edit:  should have finished reading before posting, looks like you already figured it out.

The last bag of oats i got was full of corn and other detritus. Any methods for filtering out the random shit? Some old farmers trick? Getting really tired of picking things out one by one.

What’s up everybody?! First of all I know this thread hasn’t been touched in a few months so I apologize for the late entry, but as I was scrolling through the comments I really couldn’t believe how much variance I’ve been seeing/hearing about when it comes to using oats… I originally started with WBS( least favorite) and kind of bounced around experimenting with different grains and techniques for a while until a reliable buddy put me on to oats!  He told me not only does he not soak them, but he also mentioned that he barely even needs to rinse them… then after he told me how cheap they were I just had to give these a shot because I literally couldn’t believe how cheap and easy he made it seem….. soo measure out your oats however you normally would and I personally give them a couple rinses just to make sure they’re fairly clean…. Then fill your pot with water using about 3xs the volume of the oats soo if the first line is where your oats are up to then the second line is how much water you should use (for expansion). Next you crank your heat up to high, and once you start getting a boil going, set a timer for 40 minutes.. decrease your heat just a little bit, we want to keep a rolling boil but not as hot as possible.. stirring here and there, once you get to about 35 minutes start inspecting your grains and take out when they start bursting…:: I let mine dry in calendars for about. 1/2 hour or so before transferring to a big towel and depending on quantity I might let the fan blow on them, once dried i load up, PC AT 15 for 90minutes and viola!!! Give em all some shakes after you finish pressure cooking for the next couple hours or so…

Crack I’m giving your technique a shot right now man I’d love to see the difference the two different techniques have on the amount of absorbtion and overall performance after PC ing , thanks for the post bud!!

Hope I can help
