Mycelium or white mold?
    #26392997 - 12/20/19 07:22 PM (4 years, 1 month ago)

The last two pictures are what im worried is a clump of mold or perhaps it was just a good microenvironment for mycelium? The other pictures show growth of the same color, but of these two pictures which are basically the same picture you see in the middle to bottom right of the picture a solid piece of a growth of a whispy white color. Can anyone tell if this is mold? Is it just a clump of mycelium, due to its position in a crack of the substrate?

Pretty blurry when you zoom in but I’m guessing it’s mycelium

With the ridges in the glass distorting the view it is hard to tell at this point. I wouldn't trip out about it just yet. Give it another couple days to see how things develop.

If the growth is below on of the inoculation holes in the lid then theres a very good chance its mycelium.

Either way, time will tell. Be patient.

The ridges obscure it for me too even in person. It is below one of the inoculation sights i think, but i inoculated them through aluminum foil and replaced the foil with with sanitized jar lids. I didnt put holes in the jar lids. So, i guess i will have to just wait and see too. Im hoping for the best as it is similar in color as other mycelium sites in other jars. But i cannot make out any rhizomorphic characteristics yet. Watching them grow is fascinating i must say.

Alright i will wait and see, and i may even post some pictures of white mold growing in the substrate through the jar if it turns out it is indeed

And those mushrooms are beautiful on your signature. Are they burma cubensis?

At this point all you can do is wait.

It's not a sure tell but when growth appears where you inoculated that's usually a good sign.

If you continue to use BRF cakes in the future you will definitely want to drill/poke four small holes in the lids at 12 o'clock, 3 o'clock, 6 o'clock and 9 o'clock.  Once you're done steaming them or pressure cooking them you only have to remove the foil and inoculate through the holes and down through the vermiculite barrier.  Then just leave them be.  Don't replace the foil or lids as you need to let them breath through the 4 tiny holes and you never want to take the lids off in general unless they are ready to be birthed.

...and if you cared to, you could look for the Ball jars with the flat glass.  But ultimately you would want to move to grains and invest in wide mouth quart jars.  BRF is a good tek to learn the ropes but grain and bulk is where it's at.

The shrooms in my sig are actually Golden Teachers.  They were from my first ever attempt about 8 years ago. I'm into agar, isolates and monotubs now but don't feel the need to show off. But I do have some APE about to go to grain so that may be worth adding to the sig.
:dawerp:
