So I just order new containers and the bottoms are pp5 but lids are pp4. Will this work at all or should I return. It's for no pour plates

I'm gonna guess the lids will warp in the PC

but check out Crack plates for some work around ideas

Any photos or links to what you bought?

I never heard of PP4 before.

PP is polypropylene, and the 5 is the resin code for polypropylene. 4 is the code for LDPE, so PP4 makes no sense if its meant to be a indication of a plastic and its resin code.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Resin_identification_code

googling PP4 does throw up some hits though, but I never heard of it.

My advice:

Go to your local hardware store, grab some 1/2 pint (or 1/4 I can't remember but get the smallest ones) wide mouth glass jars.  Then look for the plastic lids (pp5) that fit and get them as well.  Attach a filter to plastic lid.

They make perfect no pour plates.

As you can see, the filter allows for the condensation to evaporate and you get a nice view.  Not as great of a view as petris but close.

I'll never pour petris again.

The simple test I do is to just microwave plastics with water in them and see how they hold up.

But sounded like you might be returning them so this would not be an option.

Pp4 doesn't exist.

PP is always polypropylene and that always has code 5

Code 4 plastic is LDPE

I'll save you some time.  Return them.  They will melt for sure (or warp at the very least).  You can pour hot agar in them though and they won't buckle however, as an additional option.

Have heard a ton of great things about plastics. Mainly can get a bigger cake without stalling as much because of the wide opening of most tupperware containers vs less depth compared to jars. Can anyone confirm this?

Your correct. It's ldpe and 4 in triangle.
So I think I'll return because I can find what I want eventually.
I don't think they would be sterile enough to pour agar. Idk.

I'm returning anyhow
