Ever Elusive Sleep 2

Hey again everyone!
So I'm a night RN in USA that works night shift (I am well aware that this is 90+% of the problem). I have worked night 3 years now and have required slowly increasing amounts of alcohol to get to sleep... But I can't seem to get to sleep otherwise.
I have alcoholic genes so thankfully no matter how much I drink I basically wake up feeling good. The only exception being often I wake up early due to the sedative effect wearing off.
At this point I know I'm almost certainly physically dependent on alcohol for sleep. I hate this for many reasons, one being I can no longer have a healthy/fun relationship with alcohol I had in the past.
I almost never consume THC and Benzos are really not something I'd prefer to dabble in. Too much addiction in my genes.
I'm considering starting edibles for like 3 days in a row when I get a few days off to detox from the alcohol and using edibles to sleep instead.
Note: I do work out several times a week and eat well.
tl;dr: anyone use edibles for sleep? If so, how it go?

Edibles would probably keep me awake. Smoking seems to make me more sleepy.
Try some kratom. It's addicting too, but not too bad and the withdrawals aren't bad.

First things first, I'd really suggest seeking help for your alcohol dependence. Even though it was helping you sleep your organs are suffering and will only continue to do so. You need to find a better long term solution.
I was your same boat the past few years, initially using it for sleep daily. What I found helpful outside of thc is Magnesium powder, and sedative herbs like skullcap, poppy seeds, and valerian root. The edibles will definitely help put you to sleep for a few days, enough to detox and allow your body deep REM sleep again (: Hit up your local AA meetings and ask others how they dealt with sleep issues, you may even meet another night nurse. The issue affects more people than you may think.
Goodluck getting more peaceful rest!

Booze can really mess up sleep. I take valarian and melatonin. If I wake up and feel too awake another valarian helps me sleep. Rarely another melatonin is needed.

I don't need help. I'm not addicted to alcohol, though I am certainly dependent. I can and have stopped with the only side effect being difficulty sleeping. It's just when I get home from work I need something to put me out again.
I'm pretty shocked no one has used edibles for sleep on a regular basis.
