Skateboarding Brain

What's your experience, personal or otherwise, with long lasting brain injuries from skating? I have a feeling many of the worst cases have yet to show up because a lot of really good skaters now are so young, but it's also been a thing for so much longer that maybe it's really just case by case and more about not being stupid.

I just ask out of curiosity, I'm just this close to getting consistent, clean ollies while moving. Feels good sliding around

I feel like there is zero. You either have people who wear protective gear and you have people who dont. I feel like those who dont, break something and quit before reaching brain injury

I was really into skating when I was in 6-9 grade and was at one point really good. Eating shit was something that just happened but I had 2 major concussions where I don’t remember how it happened. Essentially blacked out from smashing my brain on hard concrete. Pretty sure that’s why I get migraines.

I was a skating fiend from ages 11-17. I never got seriously injured, broken a bone, needed stitches, etc - and I was kickflipping stairs and bombing hills and rails like there was no tomorrow.

Let me be the first to say, I genuinely got lucky as fuck, lol. I got out before I got seriously injured.

Stepped on skateboard recently and it fell so foreign, I couldn't even ollie. All my older self could think is "Holy shit this IS dangerous LOL!".

I skate and have been for roughly 6 years (I roller skated for about 6 too and go on them every now and then).
Had quite a few broken bones, at one time both wrists
Only once had a temporary blackout/amnesia from hitting my head while flipping. I have hit my head other times too but been okay i guess.
Maybe something will develop...

Recently got into vert, I always wear knee pads and helmet on it. Not risking a head bash when the stakes are that high.

thought this thread was going to be about the altered state of perception associated with boarding
the new study of roads for subtle waves that car suspension ignores while stylish weaving can mean building up speed through following dips and avoiding rises

no account of brain damage tho, sorry

There's a pro skater called Ryan Reyes who I imagine would be a member on here possibly.

I was one of the lucky ones as well.  For about 8 years I was on a skateboard everyday and never managed to damage myself too badly.  I only wore pads on the ramps but spent most of my time pad-less on the streets.  I do miss it and if I had the time to pick it up again I could get back in shape.
