I'm using wheat because that's all I could get locally at the time. Took maybe two batches to get the prep sorted and it works well. I just wonder about sharing the proceeds with anyone that's sensitive or allergic to gluten.

damn near every edible store bought mushroom is grown with grain spawn. i think it would be common knowledge if mushrooms triggered celiac.

I use sorghum as well because of availability. I like it. For the latest round of grows, I'm doing a 24-hour soak and quick simmer...because I'm not in a rush. Otherwise, I have used hamloaf's prep. The way I usually grow pans doesn't require the grain to be prepped at all, but I am playing around with some new methods.

Oats fkin suck.
Wheat is the motherfuckin shit.
Almost no down side to wbs besides lack of consistency and can be sort of dirty.
Popcorn... I see no reason to use it.
Rye is all right but price sucks.
Cracked corn works but gets sticky if you dont know what you are doimg.
I've gone through atleast 100lb of each of these grains With wbs and oats more far more than 100 lbs. The only exception Is popcorn I didn't use it much.
I've learned alot using different grains. Next grain I will try is barley. Gotta burn through a couple 100lbs of stocked up oats first.
By far my favorite is wheat. Easiest to prep, Cleanest(especially food grade), most uniform, smells great and most importantly mushrooms love wheat. Try them you wont regret it.

I can't even get it local anymore or I would have never stopped using it. It's like everytime I find something I love it gets taken from me. When I was getting it, it was pretty expensive. Probably 30 bucks for a 50lb back but I bought a bunch of them clearenced down to like 13 bucks a bag all food grade. You can get them cheaper but feed stores dont carry it around here so I'm still looking for a good source for cheap feed grade wheat.

I use wbs but I don't soak it. It gets rinsed a couple times, boiled for (around 45min or so), rinsed again, drained, and loaded when I feel like it's ready. I hawk for deals. I also still use a lot of wbr, becasue the speed of growth is unreal (and I have a virtually undending supply). One day I'll run to Anchorage and buy a shitload of wheat, but that day is not today. Wbs and wbr have treated me well.

OATS all the way, boil for 10-15 min then drain for 24-48hr and into the jars it goes. I had trouble in the past with oats not getting the moisture right but now I got my oat prep down with much success. I am going to get a 50lb bag of millet one of these days, only problem is the smallest quantity I can get from the feed store is 1000lb and I sure as hell don't need that much.

Awesome sauce. Thanks everyone. I think I overhydrate my oats. WBS always came out good. I want to try wheat & Millet the most so far. This was a good thread. I appreciate everyone's time and opinion. I'm going to try and pick some up this weekend and I'll keep yall informed.

It seems to be the same everywhere you go, people praise one grain or another, but in the end it's the same end game. Just open your third eye, enhance your conscious mind.

I use wbs for no prep master jars. The ease of use is the main reason but I also see faster growth going a2g with wbs vs oats. I use oats for spawn bags, I soak mine overnight, dry until ready an load em up. Have 100lbs soaking now, will drain/dry in the morning and load up 4 AA941's with spawn bags about this time tomorrow.
Think I'm gonna try wheat next.
