I've been trying to track down local Millet for a while now but yeah I think if that were the case I would change grains as well.
It was actually surprisingly easy to find it where i am at, living in a rural TN area, but on the other hand my local CO-OP is run by some good ole boys who get frustrated at using a computer. Couldn't give up a list of cereal grains they have and got all flustered when asked about barley. Might have to make the switch to Oats.

I'm excited to try some swabs now. I have done MSS, grain, agar, and loop swipes on agar plates but not yet swabs. I don't like my loop and don't really want to buy more, and MSS are just kinda a hassle to make just for plates. Swabs may be my happy place.

Yea I use telephone also. It works great for spore germ when I'm not using a swab though. I tried it once using soft agar and I couldn't even drag the swab on the surface it just dug in and got covered in agar. Then I had to cut the tip off the swab anyways. That was with 8g agar to 500ml water. I'm not denying that my agar is probably too stiff for spore germ but also I think I just suck at swabs.
I use telephone and put about 8.5-9g agar powder to my 500ml when I streak plates. Havent had germ issues this far

I always roll my swab while streaking, I really enjoy when I can see the darkness of the spores on the plate. I have dug in before and had success. I can't wait to innoculating some plates on the first for the group grow.

With a swab I very lightly swipe it in a zig zag patter across my agar. You dont have to apply any downward pressure, just set the swab on the agar and sweep.
I hear ya man. When I start from spore I dont worry about streaking. I Scrape spores onto dish. Get it to grain in as few transfer as possible. Spawn. Then look for cloning candidates. Everytime I get a swab in the mail I'm like not this shit again lol. Do you have any suggestion on agar recipe for spores I'm actually going to be trying to use a couple swabs today old ass swabs and want to give them the best chance possible.

Just to throw mine in the mix, I'm using telephone as well. But only 7.5g agar\500ml and haven't had any issues with loop or blade digging in or not holding wedges. Just did 8 t2 plates and 6 plates swiped with spores using inoc loop last night. No issues at all with overly soft agar.
Also did a bunch of MSS plates on the 11th and 12th. Of those, almost all are showing growth but syringes were from early 2017 so any that don't do well I will not blame on the agar.

I like to roll the swab also and when I can see a spores I always get germination in those areas but thats like a blue moon situation. I'll probably just keep doing what I'm doing I mean I'm working with older swabs most of the time but I get growth 100% of the time when I leave the cotton on the agar so my method isn't really broken I guess.

Well you shouldn't have germ issues softer agar is better for germinating spores Natedawg said. Also are you using swabs? I am 2 year old swabs in most cases. You ever tried to germ a old ass swab its not easy I tell ya. Prints are cake but swabs really piss me off.

Exactly, I've got a swab or two that are stubborn. When I get around to putting in plates, I'm definitely going to leave a chunk of swab., I've always seen it germinate.

When you swipe the swab, you introduce moisture to the swab tip, which at room temperature will germinate spores: even of the contaminant sort... cold storage eliminates this factor, and gives the mushroom spores the same chance they'd have from a fresh inoculation... it still needs wrapped to prevent contamination
I've seen some guys cut the entire tip off onto a dish... no issues... if its clean, its clean!

I buried mine to get PE to germinate this was after an attempt to streak that never did anything. Buried it like this, and it eventually took off

Personally I'd give a few more days. Hard to tell without pictures on every side though.

I agree with a couple more days assuming the whole thing looks like that.
Youβre off to a good start! The hard part where you have to be clean and wait is done, now the fun part starts.

I know the feeling, I gave 2oz of pe blobs to a buddy and he didn't believe there was 2oz in the bag. He said it looks like a half, and I said put it on the scale if you don't believe me, sure enough 56g. But yea they are way heavier than they look. Deceives me every time, never had any ape ever but im dying to get some spores, may just buy some and start them up to begin the new year right.

Here's how I did my swabs the first time.
So I put some PE6 agar wedges to grain a few days before Thanksgiving. None of my jars are colonized but some are getting close.
This is my first try at bulk, and the one mistake I made so far was forgetting to shake after they came out of the PC. I also did not shake them at all as they have been colonizing up until a week ago. I suspect that is why my growth is so slow.
Here are some pics of a few of the slowest ones:

And the one of the faster ones:

I've already learned a shit load and I haven't even got past jars yet. Next time I'm cloning, using LC, shaking right out of the PC, and at inoculation.
Anyone use light when they're jars are colonizing? This is what I got on my jars:
 Overkill?
