TEK Revision Dec 19 2019
SUPER OAT JARS - HYBRID TEK (soak in jar/rinse/load wet/PC)
💥 💥 💥 💥 💥 💥 💥 💥 💥 💥 💥 💥 💥 💥 💥 💥 💥 the hydration power of a soak tek 💥 💥 💥 💥 coupled with the precision of a no prep tek 💥 💥 💥 💥 💥 💥 💥 💥 💥 💥 💥 💥 💥 💥 💥 💥 💥 💥 💥

BOD's Easy AF Oat Prep is the baseline for moisture content for any oat Tek due to the nature and power of boil/soak prep methods. Long story short his Tek produces oats with 75g of water uptake per 100g of oats and then the grains start to burst when more water is added.
At the opposite end of the Tek spectrum are "no prep" Teks. They are "mix ingredients and PC" Teks. They work great but don't get as much water uptake so they tend to be on the dryer end of the spectrum for grain Teks. No prep Teks that I have tested give around 45-50g of water per 100g of oats.
The Hybrid Tek introduced here produces 100g of grain with 60-65g of water with only a 12 hour hot tap water soak and a quick rinse. No drying of grains. Just soak, rinse, load soaking wet and PC. All the water for this comes from the 12 hour soak. You can add a little more but no more than 1/4in of water in the bottom of the jar when it hits the PC or you will start to get sticky and burst grains.
💥 💥 💥 💥 💥 💥 💥 💥 💥 💥 💥 💥 💥 💥 💥
THERE ARE 2 DIFFERENT RECIPES
💥 💥 💥 2/3 PER QUART JAR 💥 💥 💥 200g OF OATS
💥 💥 💥 3 CUPS SPAWN PER QUART 💥 💥 💥 250G OF OATS
💥 💥 💥 💥 💥 💥 💥 💥 💥 💥 💥 💥 💥 💥 💥

STEP 1 (Add gypsum here if you are going to) Load 200g of dry oats into a quart jar and soak with hot tap water for 12 hours
STEP 2 Apply strainer to top of jar and flip over and drain (gypsum) water out really good. Add warm water and place palm over the mouth of the jar and shake good to rinse grains. Place strainer over mouth of jar and dump rinse water out. Shake most water out but you want no more than 1/4in of water at the bottom of the jar when they hit the PC. More water than 1/4in will burst grains or get really close to it.
💥💥💥💥💥 💥💥💥💥💥 💥💥💥💥💥
CRAZY SIMPLE RIGHT ?
60-65g of water per 100g of oats with no heat

Writing a tek before testing is pretty risky unless you were looking to source input. However oats tend to be super forgiving, I didn’t even follow a tek for them the first time it tried em probably cause there were no oat teks back then

I am sold on oats as a beginner grain due that very reason... forgiving 👍 All my oats tests produce fruits even though Im not a master at agar yet so that's why I just toss these out there. You will never see me doing a rye Tek! LOL
I felt good releasing it having had success with only 40g of water per 100g of grains in my precision tek and these have 60-65g. So close to BODs numbers at 70-75g.

I have only had a great experience with oats since I switched from WBS. I found them really cheap (~$14 for 50lbs) and Bods tek has worked great for me. Besides a less involved soak/water uptake is there many more benefits you've found? I might try this and see how it works time wise for me.

Doing a 12 hr soak compleatly defeats the purpose of flash prep. i would just measure for hydration, add the appropriate mix of grain to water and pc.

The Goal of this Tek was to use both soak (for more moisture) and per jar weights (no prep)
As it states above I have a "no prep" Tek already called the Precise Moisture Oat TEK which already does what you suggest https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/26358312/page/1
Bods method gives 70-75g of water per 100g of oats This hybrid Tek gives 60-65g of water per 100g of oats A no prep Tek gives only about 40-45g of water per 100g of oats
No prep Teks cant hold as much water. Dont know why, just doesnt. You need some soak time to get water to hold up good in the grain
Ive done 3 weeks of extensive testing with oats. Im not saying trust me. Try this Tek before trying the precision oat tek. You will get better results with more moisture.

When you claim "60g of water per 100g of oats with no heat" should we take that to mean that you weighed the jars before they went into the PC? That would present an opportunity to upgrade the Tek precision:
- Weigh and mark each jar's empty weight
- Add measured weight of oats (or re-weigh the oats in the jar with tare)
- Soak for a small eternity (could I leave it in the refrigerator for a few days?)
- Dump water and rinse (maybe use the water from the soak for agar?)
- Add water or drain longer to get desired weight (using jar tare + weight of oats + desired H2O)
Have you tried something like this? I'd have at least some confidence that I got the right amount of water and the long soak would make it likely that the water was actually inside the grain.
I've had a few good successes with agar when I use the soaking water to make up the agar. I expect that might promote growth of mycelial strains that "like" whatever is in the grain. Strains that aren't happy in that particular grain would grow more slowly and I'd be less likely to use them when it's time to transfer.

I'm replying to myself to acknowledge that I didn't read your Precision Tek link first, and it pretty much suggests the same thing I did.
