misting a dry colonizing substrate?

Hey, I have some bins colonizing. The thing is, I had a space heater in next to the bins to keep them warm and it seems to have dried out the side closest the space heater on the substrate. Should I boil some water and then mist them while they're colonizing or no? It's still colonizing on that side normally but im not sure what it looks like below the surface. The substrates affected are about 80% colonized so should I wait for them to finish and dunk before fruiting or mist the dry parts now?

Pics?
Whatever you do though, don't dunk. If there's not enough moisture for the first flush (which there should be) the most you should do is pour some water down the side so it sucks it up through the bottom. If it's colonizing normally I wouldn't worry, though. Misting should be fine.

you cant really see the dryness, myc is covering it. its really only on the edge on one side about half a centimeter in. Why shouldn't i dunk? I wouldnt dunk before its fully colonized. I've read of multiple people having success dunking for a couple hours before first flush if the sub is a bit dry. maybe i'll just give it a heavy misting before fruiting.

If it were mine I would just mist that spot. Regular tap water is fine you shouldn’t need to boil any water

Okay, isn't contamination a potential issue if you don't boil water and spray it on a not fully colonized substrate? Also, idk if you can see but the whole surface of the substrate has some dried coir here and there. should i mist the whole thing or just that main dry corner?

The only real time you need to worry about contamination is when you are working with a nutritious substrate. Thats why you spawn colonized grain in the open, so you will be just fine using regular tap water to mist your sub.

Mist everything Even your tub that isn't dry could use a light misting

Looks like you have too much FAE when colonising, tape up some holes and mist until nice and moist but not drenched. I usually prepare my monos a bit on the dry side and when spawned, I mist the top lightly, as it evaporates anyway and seems to help staying at the right moisture level.

sounds good. yeah its weird because the substrate was at field capacity when i spawned. and there are no holes in the tub. they are also weathershield tubs so they have weatherstripping around the lid. my theory is the space heater they were next to kind of dried them out. no idea.

Put he space heater as far away from the tubs as possible and point it the opposite direction so it can still keep your room warm and not dry out your sub again. Room only needs to be about 70F
