Dirt falls off when they are dried but some people like them fresh and they are not going anywhere near my mouth with all that shit caked in there.

Eating them fresh from a clean substrate is the most ideal way to experience this species in my experience.

The flavor profile is very nice & unique but that among other traits is lost to some extent when dried. :ooo:

Such a unique taste & textural experience eating these mushrooms fresh.

It is a shame that at this point in our era's history experiences like that have been limited to few.

Hopefully cultivation becomes more accepted as a healthful activity as our society begins to accept Psilocybe species for depression treatment.

Dude, I have grown up with Psilocybe cubensis and no way in hell am I not rinsing fresh fruit bodies to eat, dry is another story,  but never fresh; other Psilocybe species are fine, dirt isn't the issue, it's the manure I have a problem with.

I can confirm that shit eating does indeed build character, but is it possible a TI could help confirm the photos? Thanks in advance!

I have a feeling that the two TI's that graced this page with their time may have seen the six other people identifying it as Psilocybe allenii & gave a confirmation of the ID vicariously.

Just off of the fact that they would have immediately identified it if it was a lookalike, especially if it was toxic or semi-toxic in any way.

The TI's may trust many of us to some extent to have experience identifying woodlovers & tend to only step in if someone has been given a false ID.

If it's any help I have been identifying woodlovers successfully in western WA for seven years now & am very familiar with the species Ps. allenii, that you for sure have samples of.

I'm the same way with you there Doc, wash the manure for sure to remove potential contaminant bacteria or viruses that can live there.

Being familiar with woodlovers, small amounts of sand, silt, clay & dirt end up in my samples at points & although it roughens up my stomach, I recover well in time feeling detoxed.

The term shit usually implies random physical material of any sort for me so I totally forgot we are on a mushroom forum dealing with physical manure.

The real worry would be pathenogenic organisms is the manure. Which I doubt after it’s been pasteurized or sterilized. Many people do not seem to understand pathenogenic organisms and why they’re called that. Because they can begin to live inside your body and use it as a substrate basically lol

Most often the immune system completely destroys pathogens. Sometimes they can be harder to eradicate. Many humans have candida which is a pathenogenic infection of candida. However the candida is supppsed to be in you body to begin with. A poor diet leads to candida becoming over populated emensely.

I’m interested in the slug slime causing issues however that’s crossed my mind before collecting in the wild

Yeah most people don't realize that almost all disease are caused by having bad guests in your body. It's a common misconception that people are just organisms when in reality we are symbiotic. You actually consist of many species living in your vessel some of which are beneficial and others being malicious. I could talk all day about this kind of stuff but I ain't tryna thread jack

On a side note regarding the consumption of excrement, most modern humans actually survive on a diet of 90-100% fecal matter excreted by the organisms that live in their guts.

Sweet dreams

I absolutely concur!

I looooove eating cyans and allenii fresh.

I enjoy not only the texture they have in the mouth when being chewed up, and their aroma when fresh, but also the qualities of the trip itself that aren't present with dried mushrooms. (fresh mushrooms have always had a certain "zest" about them that isn't there after dried)

I might eat some fresh cyans and/or allenii tonight for the solstice. Kept some in the fridge from a harvest earlier this week. If not tonight then I won't have another chance to eat fresh mushrooms until next year's season.

Once I get my own little patch established at home, one of these years I'm going to kneel down and eat the mushroom(s) straight from the substrate with out even picking them  . I've always wanted to do that when I see perfect immaculate mushrooms lol...om nom nom nom nom nom :drooling: .

The stems on those allenii in the OP look chunky, real thick & long lol.

An update on my mushroom patch:
I left these babies alone (following Mr. Rockefeller's advice not to pick too early) in the area from the last find for two weeks:

Came back last night to these!
