What would you do?

My ex girlfriend has asked me to watch her dog while she goes on vacation. It will be the third time in less than 12 months. The first was for 6 weeks and the second was for 10 days.
It's a bit of a pain as the dog doesn't have any training and is more wild than tame.
I want to help but have a feeling I'm being used.
She doesn't pay me anything but will bring gifts back to give to me.
I'm at a loss for words as to how to respond. Again, I want to help but don't want to be her go to dog sitter every time she goes on vacation.

Say no. Don't be an errand boy for your ex. That sounds usurious asf, even without anything to say about it. Just say no, and if she asks why tell her you don't want to. She will then proceed to get mad and prove your point.

I don't know why woman can be so shitty.
I had a girlfriend that had me watch her dog while she went on a date. She was shitty and I was a major rebound.

There are two ways to deal with this right. This is one:
Quote:
larry.fisherma said: Say no. Don't be an errand boy for your ex. That sounds usurious asf, even without anything to say about it. Just say no, and if she asks why tell her you don't want to. She will then proceed to get mad and prove your point.
Before i continue, let me just say SHE IS TRYING TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF YOU! Be cool with it my friend. She chose you for a reason, because she likes you at least a little... Don't hold onto that. The moment you hold onto that you become what she 'thinks' you are and you're going to loose it.
Here's a truth if you haven't realised it yet. This girl is not compatible with you. Nothing wrong with that. You need to remember that though. Remember that and move on, then there's nothing to stop you two having fun in the moment. (You'll find another person right for you up the track.)
The other right way is to negotiate.

Right on. My first instinct is to say no.
She just sent a txt saying she can pay me.
It's not about the money, though I do appreciate her offer. Again, I don't want to be the dog sitter, especially since it's such a hassle to care for.
Doesn't really help that she hasn't talked or text since I last dog sat for her. Really drives home my feelings of only being called on to sit her dog.
Thanks everyone!
Sucks because I still have feelings for her.

I will feed my friends cat (lives 20 minutes away) when he goes out of town. He pays me $20 per day just out of respect. I would do it for free regardless, but the payment is a thoughtful gesture.

Thank you for this.
The kennel is no longer an issue as a much larger, open top space is available which was used during the one week sitting. Keeping the dogs seperate is not hard, though I do feel bad for having to keep it closed off, but maybe I could have her get an extra section of walling to make a larger space.

Considering many overnight kennels charge upwards of $85/night, not really. It will help undoubtedly.

It's a Shiba Inu. A breed that requires a lot of attention and training, which she does not. I like the dog and am more than able to care for it, though a bit of a hassle being winter and having to walk it nearly 1/4 mile, two to three times a day, I'm not thrilled to be watching it for 5 weeks.
She makes a point that I have been the only one to watch her dog and that she thinks it would be more comfortable. I know she has other friends but I doubt they'd be willing for 5 weeks.

So in last 12 months she has not been able to care for her dog 6 + 5 + almost 2 more weeks = 3 months or 25% of the time...
Maybe not fair for her to keep the dog, to the dog that is. Maybe someone 100% committed in time and presence would be a better home for this breed especially?
Doesn't sound like that is you although you do have the ability and compassion obviously. But on the other hand you've had it encumbering your time 25%
Idk just my .02 I would ask her if she's being fair to the dog and you?

Ahh, math!
I think she is well aware that she made a mistake in getting that particular breed, or any dog for that matter as she travels a lot and works to pay for it so her elderly parents mostly care for the dog.
I told her I needed to sleep on it.

Well, I have slept on it and woke up today feeling the same, that I don't want to watch her dog.
Even for $500 I don't feel it's worth the amount of stress that comes along with it.
Having my morning coffee realizing how much time and effort will have to be sacrificed for 5 weeks and how much stress will come along with it. Remember, it's winter in Colorado and chilly.
It's sad because I do love her but I have to listen to my gut and not my brain, because that fucker is damaged, fo sho. And even though I think the $$ will help, I have sanity to maintain.
Besides, I'm not really struggling much anymore after receiving a raise so the money is much less tempting.

Glad to hear it brother!!
It really sounds to me like that will be the best decision, for all involved.

You're being emotionally manipulated by a person who doesn't actually appreciate you as a person or they wouldn't be doing it. Intention and awareness is irrelevant (they're too dumb to realize they're doing it; my fucking favorite rationalization for shit behavior) and never an excuse. I wouldn't do it.

Driving into work is a great time to run things through mind, at 85mph.
First, I wanted to say, thank you all for your valued input.
Getting down to some final decisions here, and wanted to pass this by a collective mind. Again, many thanks!
$1,000 for 5 weeks.
I feel it's enough to make my body happy while I'm walking the dog in freezing weather, I can think of somethings like, getting a couch, or some new shoes, or maybe some cheap, clean carpet, or something nice, and feel OK with it all.
It's also enough to put her on the back foot and really consider what it cost to own a dog, especially when she travels so much.
And hey, I may just lay down that line of, if she wants me to watch her dog in the future, it's $200 a week.
Hoe does shroomery feel about these words?

I see where you're going with this but, IMO, it should still be a no. Purely on principle. She made her bed and she needs to lie in it without you going to the rescue, even if you are getting paid for it.
You're bargaining. Weak stance IMO. Stand strong:

What kind of person gets a dog and then goes on long ass vacations? Dogs get attached to their master and they don't know what's going on when they are abandoned for weeks at a time. It's super stressful for a lot of dogs and she should have thought about this before she got a dog. She should either sit home or take her dog with her, not pawn it off on someone else. Don't contribute to her bad behavior.
If you don't want to tell her NO then just print out this post and show it to her.

Oh, the dog is a sweetheart and we get along alright I suppose. She's not mean and doesn't bark at all. Only issue is the amount of energy it has to spare, which is alright as long as I walk it enough. Oh, and the fact I haven't been paid in the past.
I know I say it's not about money but it sure is a good incentive to want to continue helping.
I'm going to lay it on her, $200/week and stand firm. She needs me more than I need her money, will see what happens.

Considering how firmly you've stated your feelings, I think that's a pretty lame thing to do.

$200 a week for sitting a dog?
That's considerably more than the average admin gets for sitting the Shroomery
If you don't want it just say no but to me $200 a week for sitting the dog of your ex sounds off the wall.
Thats $871 a month, there's shitty jobs that pay that.

Again, I search and see that it's not uncommon to see $85 for a single night.
I think at less than $30 a day, she's getting a hell of a deal. IMO

I agree with what Loph said. I was just agitated every time I started watching it. I've read all the fan reviews trying to understand, and it's basically just a lot of kids pulling the ol' "you gotta be intelligent" bit. The show is not complicated, or difficult to follow...I just don't like it.

I get where you're coming from mate. Can't say it particularly appeals to me either. I loath watching Rick a lot of the time. That alone make it a struggle for me to sit through an episode. I had to push my self to continue beyond episode 2. Did that because everyone kept on going on about how great the series is. I must admit that i really did enjoy episode 5 with Mr. Meeseeks. Thought that was funny as fuck. I'm still fresh into the series at this point, whether i continue watching depends on if Rick continues to irritate me. At the moment i feel like i'm going to find the humour to be fleeting and not to my taste.
It's doesn't contain adult themes but i still think that Adventure Time is the best modern animated series.

I've only tried watching when it's aired on tv, or when a friend/relative tries to get me into it...not sure which episodes I've seen. But yeah...I just feel like I'm always waiting for it to get good, and it never does. It feels obnoxious, and like it's trying too hard, in my opinion.
I didn't even know Adventure Time was show until now, lol. I have an old friend that always used to reference the name, and now it all makes sense. We've always had fairly similar tastes, and I just might enjoy it.
