Timing problems with birthing/fruiting
    #26388665 - 12/18/19 12:30 PM (4 years, 1 month ago)

Currently have 5x 1/2 pint BRF jars that are close to full colonization. Unfortunately, I didn’t think far enough ahead about timing with being out of town for the holidays. I am weighing cancelling some plans to be home during the birthing/fruiting process, but would love to not cancel them if possible.

How sensitive are the BRF cakes when they’re in the fruiting chamber? Is it the end of the world if I’m not home to fan/mist for about three days when they're birthed and in the fruiting chamber?

Regarding harvest, what are the negative consequences of not being home when the veil breaks and harvesting a few days after the spores drop? Will the spores cause any problems for the other BRF cakes in the fruiting chamber? Would it cause problems for the ones that dropped spores if I waited a few days to harvest?

Just leave them in the jars until you’re back. They’ll be fine and people have found letting them sit for months after 100% colonization makes the shrooms more potent.

Good to know, I'll probably just wait to birth then! I'm guessing if left in the jars indefinitely they will start pinning and then just not fruit until they're removed?

Out of curiosity, if spores are dropped in the fruiting chamber will it cause any problems for the fruits or any of the other cakes?
